The next morning, Astra woke up shen the first rays of sunlight slipped through the heavy curtains.
I had barely slept a wink all night, staying right by his bedside.
The moment I saw his eyelashes flutter, my heart shot into
my
throat.
The anesthesia had finally worn off.

Now came the real test.
The pain at the break would hit him in waves, relentless and overwhelming.
“You’re awake.” I asked softly, my voice a little hoarse.
Astra slowly opened his eyes.
His forehead was covered in cold sweat, and his lips were pressed white from biting down. He was clearly fighting through intense pain.
But he didn’t cry or make a sound.
When he saw me, he tried to force a smile-a smile that looked more like he was about to cry.
Then, he turned his head toward Roger and Fiona, who were both anxiously gathered on the other side of
the bed.
He lifted his finger, pointed to the leg hanging up, and gave a thumbs up.
It was as if he wanted to say, “I’m okay. My leg is still here.”
Fiona covered her mouth and rushed out of the room, not wanting Astra to see her tears.
Even Roger, always the tough guy, had red-rimmed eyes. He kept repeating, “Good boy! Good boy! Now that’s a real man!”
Rupert came in soon after.
He checked the wound for bleeding, looked at Astra’s pupils, and finally nodded in satisfaction.
“It’s better than I expected.”
As he recorded the data, Rupert leaned in and spoke to me in a low voice, “That scream yesterday—it sounded gut-wrenching, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise.”
“How so?” I asked, surprised.
“That one shout blasted open all the clotted flesh around his vocal cords.” Rupert said, tapping his own

throat. “It’s like a blocked spring finally bursting open by a rush of air. Plus, the toxins in his body are breaking down fast. I bet within a month, he’ll be able to make simple sounds again.”
That was honestly an unexpected blessing!
There was even more shocking news.
Rupert had checked Astra’s blood, his expression grave but full of respect. “What surprised me the most is that his ‘Nightmare Dust’ addiction never flared up.”
Rupert explained, “After surgery, pain and weakness usually trigger cravings for drugs. But this kid … he just braced through it. His willpower is strong enough to suppress his body’s instincts.”
Rupert looked at the trembling little figure on the bed, still refusing to make a sound despite the pain, and sighed, “Silverpeak Pack really doesn’t breed weaklings. This child was born to lead.”
The days that followed, Silverpeak Ducal Estate closed its doors to all visitors.
I canceled every appointment and focused on caring for Astra while he recovered.
Even though Prince Adam was busy with his official duties, he showed up every evening without fail.
Sometimes he played chess with Astra, other times he just sat beside him reading papers, letting Astra rest in that safe, comforting scent.
As Astra’s condition steadily improved, the heavy cloud over Silverpeak Ducal Estate finally lifted.
Before I knew it, the weather turned cold.
The first heavy snow of the season fell, blanketing the Royal Court in pure white.
And with the snow came the biggest celebration of all-my bonding ceremony with Prince Adam.
Everyone at Silverpeak Ducal Estate kicked into high gear.
That day, Kelly Carter, the most famous designer in the Royal Court, arrived with her assistants and twelve
enormous trunks.
She had come to design my ceremonial gown.
The parlor was warm with a roaring fire.
Kelly directed her team as they showed off dress after stunning dress, all while giving me a shrewd, appreciative look.
“Your Grace, you’ve kept your figure in such perfect shape.” Kelly praised me sincerely. “This ‘Moon Goddess’ was made for you. Prince Adam won’t be able to look away.”
I looked at myself in the mirror.
