My hand paused for a split second as I was smoothing my gown, then went back to normal. “Oh? Really? Didn’t he and Evelyn already have their bonding ceremony ages ago?”

Kelly waved her hand, then dropped a bombshell. “His new partner isn’t Evelyn. For some reason, Evelyn is being demoted to ‘Breeder.’

“His new partner is Madam Carrie from Blackstone Pack.”

I spun around, staring at Kelly in shock.

“Carrie Moore?! The widow of Gorefang Pack’s Alpha?! Didn’t she swear she’d never marry again?”

“That was before.” Kelly let out a cold laugh. “Now that Gorefang Pack’s Alpha is dead, the title went to a distant relative. Blackstone Pack took this childless widow in to strengthen their own position. She’s only 36 years old, still fairly young, and she controls a lot of the inheritance and connections left by Gorefang Pack’s Alpha.

“I heard this match was arranged by Princess Margaret herself.”

At the mention of Princess Margaret, everything clicked.

So, that was what this was about.

Duskfang Pack was already on the decline after the scandals and defeat. Blackstone Pack was an old powerhouse in Northmere, wealthy and influential.

After Kelly left, I stood by the window, watching the snow whirl and fall outside.

“As for Duskfang Pack…” I let a cold smile curl my lips, “It has nothing to do with me. What I need to do now is marry Prince Adam in full glory, and step into the new life that truly belongs to me.”

The next morning, the guard delivered a gold-embossed calling card.

It was signed by Blackstone Pack’s Luna, Barbara Moore.

The card said she wanted to bring her daughter Carrie-soon to be James’s new Luna-to visit Astra.

“They’re up to no good.”

Jewel tossed the card on the table, her brows drawn tight. “Ms. Spencer, you can’t see them. We’ve never had dealings with Blackstone Pack, and they’ve been silent this whole time since Astra got back. Now, all of a sudden, they want to visit? They are either here to gawk at us or to show off.”
