Chapter 230 Princess Margaret Again
Cindy’s POV:
After refusing their visit, I wanted to do something to cheer Astra up. So in the afternoon, once the snow stopped, I had him bundled up and pushed his wheelchair out to the back garden to see the pretty flowers.
Snow lay thick across the garden.
Astra used his special crutch, struggling to move through the snow.
His right leg was set, but the muscles had atrophied and rehab would be a long process.
With every step, sweat beaded on his forehead.
But he was stubborn and wouldn’t let me help.
When we reached a red plum tree, a winter bird suddenly flapped its wings and flew up, sending a cascade of snow down from the branches.
Astra instinctively opened his mouth, wanting to shout “look,” or maybe just an exclamation.
But only a harsh whisper of air came out.
In that moment, the light in his eyes dimmed.
He lowered his head, staring at the white snow, his shoulders sagging.
That feeling of wanting to speak and being unable to was more torturous than the pain in his leg.
My heart ached. I crouched down in front of him and brushed the snow off his shoulder.
“Easy! Don’t rush it.”
I took his cold hand in mine. “Dr. Rupert just changed your bandages today. He said your leg is healing better than anyone expected. Your throat will be the same-vocal cords are like strings. When they break, it takes time to recover. Once you finish the last surgery, Aunt Cindy will recite poems and sing with you.”
Astra looked at me and nodded, forcing a small grin.
That smile made my heart twist.
Prince Adam arrived around dinner time.
He still carried a chill with him, but the moment he stepped inside, the heavy Alpha presence drove away the gloom in the house.
He glanced at the downcast Astra, but didn’t bother with hollow words of comfort.
Instead, he walked over and, treating him like a grown man, gave Astra’s shoulder a firm pat.

Prince Adam’s voice was deep and strong as he met Astra’s gaze. “When the prey isn’t in sight, you lie still in the snow for days at a time. That’s not weakness, that’s gathering strength. Right now, you’re gathering strength.”
With just those words, Astra’s eyes brightened.
The slump in his shoulders disappeared.
He nodded hard, and a spark of determination came back to his gaze.
I couldn’t help but marvel inwardly. Some things really only worked when the alpha said them
Afterward, Prince Adam helped Astra practice his handwriting in the study.
I sat nearby reading. Every now and then, I would look up and see their two shadows overlapping in the lamplight.
Prince Adam would ask, “How many times did your leg hurt today?” and Astra would write a number on the paper.
“Want to ride a horse?” “Yes.” “Then we’ll start squats tomorrow.” “Okay
The scene was so peaceful it made me a little dizzy-a family of three, just as I always dreamed.
Soon, dinner was served.
Because Prince Adam was here, the kitchen made extra dishes,
There were two big bowls of tender stewed lamb, five whole roast chickens, and a huge loaf of bread.
Then I watched what could only be called an eating performance.
Prince Adam didn’t eat sloppily-he was elegant, even-but his speed was astonishing.
He barely needed to chew. His appetite was so massive that even Jewel, serving at the side, stared in shock.
“Rykens metabolize three times faster than regular wolves.”
Prince Adam seemed to notice our stares, swallowed a piece of lamb, and explained calmly, “Especially in winter, we’re going to have to store a lot of calories. Otherwise, if we shift at night, we might pass out from hunger.”
