“Shh, we’re already here. Let’s just watch,” I said calmly, settling back. “I’m curious what new ideas today’s playwrights came up with.”

But as the story unfolded and the arias rose and fell, the air in our box grew painfully awkward. It practically froze.

New ideas? It was basically a dramatic rewrite of my failed marriage.

The plot followed a famous werewolf lord who married a pure-blood noble Luna.

They formed a sacred bond in the cathedral and were said to be destined mates.

Then the lord went off to war and got bewitched by a so-called female mercenary.

She was bold, wild, and fought beside him, full of untamed charm.

The lord decided she was his true soulmate, brought her back to the castle, and tried to break the sacred bond. He even planned to exile his bonded Luna to a side estate and make space for the child he’d had with the mercenary.

Heartbroken, Luna cut the soul bond under the full moon and left the territory forever.

Only then did the lord realize the mercenary was shallow, greedy, and nothing but trouble.

She burned through his wealth, colluded with enemies, and left him ruined and disgraced.

In the final act, the lord repented before a statue of the Moon Goddess, singing a raw, anguished aria through his tears. He swore to find his ex-wife, beg forgiveness, and make things right.

The baritone dropped to his knees before the fake moon and cried, “Oh, Moon Goddess! I committed an unforgivable sin! I mistook a pebble for a pearl and lost the rarest silver

moonstone!”

The audience was completely absorbed. Some sentimental ladies were already wiping their tears with lace handkerchiefs,

“So touching!”

“That Alpha is so tragic. He got tricked by that awful woman.”

“May the Moon Goddess lead them back together!”

But our private box was completely quiet.

Fiona looked painfully stiff, not knowing what to do with her hands, and kept shooting panicked looks at Jewel.

Jewel was just as upset and muttered, “Is the playwright out of his mind? Get back together? Anyone who breaks vows like that deserves to be ripped apart by wolves!”

Even Astra sensed something was wrong. He turned toward me, eyes full of worry, his little fingers clutching my sleeve.

“They’re pouring salt on your hurt and making you clap for it!” Diana snarled inside my head. “Cindy, want me to pop out and tear that guy playing the lord apart? This is an insult to Alphas!”

“No need.”

I watched the lead actor sobbing on stage. Instead of feeling angry, I honestly thought it was kind of ridiculous.

“This is what they call ‘redemption,” I told Diana in my heart. “They believe once a man says sorry, the woman should forgive him, feel thankful, and go right back to how things were. Too bad real life doesn’t work like an opera.”

Right then, the play moved into its final scene.

Led by the goddess, the ex-wife returned. She was prettier, stronger, and more dignified than before.

The lord ran forward and wanted to hug her.

The entire theater went still, waiting for the perfect ending.

Clap! Clap! Clap!

I suddenly began clapping.

The sound cracked through the silence like a whip.

Everyone in our box flinched.

I stood, smiling calmly, and stepped up to the railing.

“Wonderful performance,” I said sincerely, my voice gentle but clear enough to carry. “That repentant aria was especially satisfying.”

I grabbed a fistful of gold coins from my purse and flung them onto the stage.

Clink! Clatter!

They struck the floor with a bright, ringing sound.

Both the crowd and the performers froze, all eyes lifting toward the most prominent box on the second floor.

When they realized I was the one who threw the coins, the theater erupted.

I tuned out the noise and took Astra’s hand.

“Let’s

The show is over. The ending is good. That’s enough.”

Outside, the cold night wind helped clear my thoughts.

I called back over my shoulder, “Jewel, let’s hit the shops on Royal Avenue. I want to buy Astra a few more pairs of riding boots. And a new velvet scarf for Adam-one that matches what he’ll

wear tomorrow.”

“Huh? Oh! Okay!” Jewel nearly bounced with excitement.

We strolled through the lively, brightly lit stores.

As I looked at the sparkling displays and watched Astra smile shyly while trying on boots, the tight knot in my chest finally eased.

“Diana,” I whispered inwardly.

“Hmm?”

“I think I was wrong. I was being overly dramatic. I kept blaming my academy friends for not showing up. But did I really treat them like family these past three years? I shut myself away, then blamed them for not reaching out first. That’s selfish.”

Diana fell silent, then gently pressed her massive head against my mind. “I’m glad you realized it. Pack bonds can snap, but they can also be fixed. If you lower your head and call out, they’ll welcome you back.”

“Yeah.” I squeezed the deep-blue velvet scarf in my hand. “After the wedding, I’ll take Adam back with me. Even if I have to drop to my knees, I’ll beg Master to forgive me.”
