Today was bitterly cold.

Outside the window, the morning was still dark. The howling wind sounded like starving wolves crying across an empty field, carrying heavy snow that slammed against the strong stone walls of Silverpeak Castle.
I sat in front of a tall mirror, staring at the pale woman inside it. Dark circles faintly shadowed
my eyes.
I hadn’t slept at all last night.
Even though the fireplace burned brightly, I still felt cold.
But that cold wasn’t from the weather. It came from the empty corner deep in my heart.
“Stop staring. Your dark circles are about to reach your chin.”
Diana’s voice sounded inside my mind, lazy but gentle. “So, what if those old fools didn’t come? Adam will protect you. Worst case, I’ll go back to the academy with you someday and yank Dean Dross’s beard out myself.”
I gave a bitter smile. “Diana, am I pathetic? Even now, I’m still like an abandoned cub, waiting for the big wolf to respond.”
“You are the lead wolf, Cindy,” Diana corrected. “But even a lead wolf needs a pack. That isn’t shameful.”
At that moment, a group of professional maids walked in, all wearing matching uniforms. Adam had hired them from the finest beauty salon in the kingdom. They carried delicate trays filled with expensive perfumes, oils, and jewelry.
“Your Grace, we will begin.”
The head maid bowed respectfully, and the dressing process started, almost like a sacred ritual.
Warm towels pressed against my face, easing my exhaustion. Oil scented with moonblossoms was gently rubbed into my skin. It was a rare product from the Elven Forest, said to make the skin glow like pearls under night skies.

I sat still like a doll while they worked.
Then the door opened slightly, and a small figure slipped inside.
It was Astra.

He wore a tiny black suit, with a red fur-trimmed cape over his shoulders. His hair was neatly combed, making him look like a miniature gentleman.
He limped over to my side and reached out, softly holding my cold fingers.
“Aunt Cindy.”
His voice was still a little hoarse, but clear. “Don’t be sad.”
I froze and looked down at him.
Astra lifted his face, his silver-gray eyes shining. “Even if the academy teachers didn’t come, I’m here. I’m a man of the Silverpeak Pack. I will walk you to your wedding. You still have family.”
My heart trembled, as if warm hands were holding it.
“Yes,” I whispered, squeezing his hand back, my eyes burning. “I have you. I still have family.”
At noon, a miracle happened.
The storm that had raged all night suddenly stopped. The thick clouds broke apart, revealing a bright blue sky.
And even though it was daytime, the faint outline of a full moon appeared on the horizon.
“It’s the Moon Goddess’s blessing!” the maids cried. “To see this on a wedding day is the luckiest sign!”
The atmosphere lifted my spirits too, and my heart felt a little lighter.
It was time to dress.
I stood up and opened my arms.
A deep crimson velvet gown settled heavily on my shoulders, like flowing fire and blood. Along the edges, silver thread embroidered the proud silver wolf symbol of the Silverpeak Pack.
This wasn’t a soft white bridal dress. This was a powerful, wild ceremonial battle gown.

The maids carefully placed the veil over my head, sewn with thousands of tiny pearls.
Finally, a crown woven from laurel leaves and rubies was set into my hair.
“One last step.”
