Chapter 78 Rumors

Cindy’s POV:

In just two days, the atmosphere in camp completely turned.

The reinforcements who once showed me basic respect now looked at me with sneering contempt.

Even my Gamma Guard started slacking during drills, and some whispered openly while in formation.

“Did you hear? Our duchess couldn’t even hold a knife back home.”

“She’s good-looking though, right? I heard she was pretty close with His Highness back at the Royal Court…”

“And those so-called experts she brought in? They’re not from any proper sect. Rumor has it they’re rogues who live off killing and looting.”

“Seriously? Making some stray wolf a squad leader? That’s insane!”

The rumors spread like wildfire.

Diana was so furious she nearly snapped her whip. She tried several times to charge into the reinforcement camp and drag people out, but I stopped her each time.

“This method is crude,” I said flatly. “But it’s effective. If we don’t cut it off now, this unit won’t obey.”

On the morning of the third day, at the parade ground.

The Gamma Guard arrived a full fifteen minutes late.

Their formation was messy, and a few troublemakers had not even adjusted their helmets.

Adam stood off to the side, his expression dark with rage, clearly on the verge of exploding. I gave him a slight shake of my head.

“Enforcement team!” Adam barked the order, understanding immediately.

Several personal guards rushed into the ranks, hauled out the loudest instigators, and flogged each of them twenty times in front of everyone.

The screams silenced the field, but the stubborn, rebellious tension still lingered in the air.

Adam strode onto the platform, his gaze sharp and cold. “I know exactly what you’ve been saying. If you refuse to acknowledge the Duchess of Silverpeak, fine. I’ll give you a chance. Anyone who dares challenge the Duchess, if you can last one minute under her hand, all rumors will be cleared, and I will promote you to squad leader.”

The crowd exploded.

One minute? That was pure humiliation.

“I’ll do it!”

A shout cut through the noise.

A towering knight in black armor shoved through the ranks and stepped forward.

His name was Miguel Bell, the Gamma Guard’s most notorious troublemaker and the acknowledged strongest fighter in single combat.

His wolf spirit was a rare iron-backed ash wolf, famous for overwhelming strength and terrifying defense.

Miguel stopped in front of me, removed his helmet, and revealed a face carved from muscle.

He looked down at me without offering salute.

“Duchess of Silverpeak,” he said mockingly. “The brothers here respect fists, not faces. If you really have ability, show it. Don’t rely on certain connections. If that pretty face gets scratched and His Highness gets angry, I can’t afford the consequences.”

Laughter rippled through the ranks.

I met his gaze calmly and slowly raised my right hand.

With a single thought, the Soulrip Gauntlets hidden beneath my bracer snapped outward, five onyx blades gleaming coldly in the sunlight.

“I don’t need one minute,” I said evenly. “Miguel, you rely on heavy armor. Defense is your specialty. I’ll let you strike first. If you make me step back even once, I lose.”

“How arrogant!” Miguel shouted, fury blazing across his face.

He let out a roar and half-shifted in place, muscles swelling until his armor groaned.

He didn’t draw a weapon. He swung his iron fists, the air screaming as they smashed down toward me.

A blow like that could shatter stone.

I didn’t move. When his fist was only inches from my face, my right hand slashed downward.

“Rend the earth!”

Diana’s power surged into the Soulrip Gauntlets.

Five clear waves of silver wolf energy burst from the tips and plunged into the ground.

Boom!

The explosion struck like thunder from a clear sky.

The tightly packed stone of the parade ground split instantly as five jagged cracks tore forward beneath Miguel’s feet.
