Chapter 84 One-sided Duel
Chapter 84 One-sided Duel
Evelyn’s POV:
“No… I refuse to believe it! This can’t be real!”
Agony flooded through my body like a raging tide, every bone screaming in protest.
But worse than the pain was my pride being crushed into the dirt.
I slumped against James’ chest, tears blending with cold sweat and blood, my vision swimming.
Even then, my eyes stayed fixed on the flawless figure in white standing not far away, Cindy.
She stood beside Adam, holding only a short wooden stick.

And that very stick, like the scythe of death itself, had knocked my longsword aside, shattered my wolf spirit, and pinned me to this pillar of humiliation.
“I didn’t lose… I didn’t lose!” I croaked, my fingers digging into James’s arm as if sharing the pain could make it lighter. “Alpha, tell them! I didn’t lose! She cheated! She must have used some evil trick!”
James lowered his gaze to me. The eyes that once overflowed with love and admiration were now tangled with shock, disappointment, awkwardness, and even a trace of pity that made my heart seize.
“Evelyn, stop it,” he said quietly, his voice rough and strained. “Everyone is watching.”
“I don’t care! I don’t care!” I collapsed completely, sobbing harder. “Why? Why was Cindy born into a duke’s household? Why did she get the best teachers and endless resources? And me? I had to claw through the mud and gamble with my life! I didn’t lose in skill. I lost because of birth. Because of this cursed life!”
My hysterical cries rang across the silent square, harsh and broken.
Around me stood soldiers, wolf warriors who once crowded around to hear me boast about my battlefield glory. Now their expressions had twisted into something else entirely.
Their eyes had changed.
From admiration and respect to disdain, ridicule, and even bored amusement meant for clowns.
“It’s hard to watch…”
Someone muttered in the crowd.
“She kept calling herself a Valkyrie, and she can’t even beat a woman with a stick.”
“Yeah, and she accused General Cindy of climbing her way up by seducing the prince. Looks like Cindy is the real deal.”
“Click your tongue, that’s the difference. One is a mangy mutt that only knows how to bark, the other is a silver wolf hiding her fangs.”

Chapter 84 One-sided Duel
Those whispers stabbed into me like countless poisoned needles, flaying both flesh and soul.
Cindy’s POV:
I watched the spectacle quietly, my heart unmoved.
Evelyn’s breakdown did not surprise me at all.

Someone who survived on lies and self-delusion had nothing left but denial and madness when the truth was laid bare.
“Evelyn,” I called out as I let the stick fall with a sharp clack against the stone. “A loss is a loss. Put away your excuses. They only make you look more pitiful.”
“Shut up!” Evelyn staggered upright from James’s hold, her hair wild and her eyes crazed. “Cindy! Don’t get smug! You think I don’t know? You pretended to be weak in front of Miguel, staged it so he could beat you, just to lure me in! All so you could humiliate me today! You’re vicious!”
The square erupted at once.
Many soldiers who did not know the whole story looked confused.
“Bullshit!”
A thunderous roar tore through the air.
Standing at the edge the whole time, Viola finally snapped.
She strode forward with a whip in hand, her steps long and fierce.
“Evelyn, if your eyes are that useless, I would not mind digging them out!” Viola sneered, snapping her whip down hard.
Crack!
The explosive sound echoed as dust burst upward.
The solid bluestone shattered under a single strike, a jagged crack over six feet long and so deep its bottom could not be seen.
