“Shut up!” I yelled, clinging to the last shred of authority. “That was buying time! If I stayed alive, I could save you! James would come to ransom us!”

“Bullshit!”

A young soldier suddenly lost it and started crying. He pointed at me, his hand shaking violently. “You said it was for peace! You said killing townspeople would scare the enemy! You said torturing prisoners was about control! But now it’s clear-you’re just twisted! You got everyone killed! You’re the reason we’ll never go home!

“If you hadn’t done all that evil stuff, would the Silverpeak Pack have been wiped out? Would the Duchess of Silverpeak’s whole family be dead?

“We helped kill a hero-we’re accomplices!

“If the Duchess of Silverpeak ever finds out, she’ll tear us apart! I,regret everything! I never should’ve followed you! I shouldn’t have sold my conscience for scraps!”

Their shouting and curses crashed over me like a storm.

Once, a single word from me was enough for them to butcher civilians or torture prisoners.

To them, I had been the so-called War Goddess, the one who brought status and rewards.

But now, with death right in front of us and the truth laid bare, their belief was shattered.

They finally realized they hadn’t followed a hero at all, but a cold, selfish monster.

“Shut up!”

I shrieked hysterically, clapping my hands over my ears, refusing to hear them. “I’m your general! I helped you earn merits! What’s wrong with killing a few civilians? That’s war! The winners get everything! The winners write history! As long as I survive, I’m still the hero!”

Even now, I didn’t think I was wrong.

What was wrong was this brutal world. What was wrong was that Cindy had fate on her side. What was wrong was that those soldiers were weak.

If I weren’t ruthless, how could I climb in a world that eats people alive? If I weren’t cruel, how could I crush those arrogant nobles under my boots?

“Proper treatment … yeah, they’ll treat valuable prisoners well,” I muttered, half-crazed. “I’m a kingdom general, the future Luna of the Duskfang Pack. I matter… They won’t kill me… James will come … He’ll definitely come…”

I hugged myself in the corner, repeating it like a madwoman.

Only that brought me a shred of comfort.

Creeeak-

The rotten hinges of the cabin door groaned as it slowly opened.

A blast of air mixed with snow and blood rushed in, snuffing out the last weak candle.

At the same time, a crushing pressure filled the tiny room, making it hard to breathe.

It was a kind of dominance that came straight from the soul-far more terrifying than any Alpha I’d ever faced. It felt like an iceberg had dropped from the sky, freezing everything around it.
