The Alpha King And His Chosen Luna novel Chapter 223

A future written in blood-2

“She heard me.”

Sera looked at our joined hands.

“Then keep talking to her.”

I leaned closer to Isla and called her name again through the bond. I told her where she wa and reminded her that I was beside her. I didn’t know if the words reached her. I continued anyway

Pryor moved toward the desk.

“Alpha King, the journal must be secured.”

“Do it.”

“Should I return it to the library?”

“No.”

I looked at the book with nothing but distrust. Until I knew what it had done to Isla, it would remain where I could see it. I ordered Pryor to lock it inside the iron cabinet behind my desk. He wrapped it in a thick cloth before moving it.

The moment the journal left the desk, Isla gasped.

Her body rose from the couch as though she’d been pulled from deep water. Her eyes opened, but they didn’t seem to see me. She dragged air into her lungs and gripped my hand with both of hers. Sera moved closer while I held Isla in place.

“Isla, look at me.”

Her gaze searched the office before finding my face. The fear in her eyes struck harder than any blade. She lifted one hand and pressed it against my chest. Her fingers moved over the place where my heart rested.

“You’re alive.”

Tears filled her eyes. She threw her arms around me and held on with all the strength she had left I pulled her against me and felt her body trembling. Whatever she’d seen involved me.

“What did it show you?”

She shook her head against my chest.

“Not yet.”

I wanted the answer immediately, but I knew better than to force it from her. I held her until her breathing began to ease. Sera placed a cup of water on the table beside us. Isla refused to release me long enough to take it.

Raith moved closer to the couch.

“Alpha King, should I remove everyone from this part of the pack house?”

“Yes.”

“I’ll keep guards outside.”

“Only wolves you trust.”

He inclined his head and left to carry out the order. Pryor remained beside the locked cabinet, waiting for further instruction. Sera checked Isla again while she stayed against me. Her strength was returning, but the fear inside the bond remained.

“Isla, I need you to drink.”

She finally lifted her head. I picked up the cup and held it while she took several small drinks. Her eyes never left my face. It was as though she feared I might vanish if she looked away.

Sera sat across from us.

“Did the journal hurt you?”

“No.”

“Did you feel pain?”

“Not mine.”

She told us the Eastern Council had been inside it. She described the elders standing around the table while I held a sword. Each word came carefully, but the fear behind them grew. When she stopped, I urged her to continue.
