A future written in blood-3
Silence filled the office.
Sera looked at me before turning back to Isla. Pryor’s face changed, but he said nothing. I kept my attention on my mate. She needed me to remain calm.
“You fell into my arms.”
“I’m here.”
“There was so much blood.”
“It was a vision.”
“You died, Caius.”
The words struck harder than I expected. Isla looked at me as though she had watched it happen only moments ago. To her, it hadn’t felt like a possibility. It had felt real.
I cupped her face in both hands.
“Look at me.”
She did.
“I am alive, and I intend to remain that way.”
Her eyes searched mine. She wanted to believe me, but the vision had planted fear too deeply. I pressed my forehead against hers. Our bond opened between us, carrying everything I couldn’t put into words.
“What else did he say?” Pryor asked.
Isla’s eyes closed for a moment.
“He said some truths should never be uncovered.”
firmed what I’d already suspected.
A future written in blood-3
“No member enters this pack house armed.”
He inclined his head.
“I’ll see it done.”
I turned toward the door as Raith returned. He listened while I ordered every Council weapon removed at the border. Their guards would remain outside the main walls unless I approved otherwise. Raith accepted each command without hesitation.
“Double the warriors around the council chamber.”
“Yes, Alpha King.”
“Place guards near every exit.”
“It’ll be done.”
I looked back at Isla. Her fear hadn’t disappeared, but resolve had begun replacing it. She knew I wouldn’t dismiss what she’d seen. I had no intention of allowing the vision to become our future.
“The Council meeting should be canceled,” Sera said.
“No.”
Isla answered before I could. Every face turned toward her. She sat straighter while keeping one hand wrapped around mine.
“If we cancel, we’ll never know which one of them wants the journal buried.”
“You’re not going near them,” I said.
“I have to.”
“No.”
She held my gaze.
“They’re coming because of me too.”
