(Caius)
I felt Isla shift against me, and I knew before she spoke.
Vaela.
Of course. Impatient thing.
“Hello, Caius.”
Her hands found my shoulders first, then slid down my arms with slow certainty, as though reacquainting herself with something she already knew well enough. There was nothing shy in the touch. Nothing tentative. Isla had softness even when she wanted. Vaela never did. She approached like instinct given shape.
I let my hands rest at her waist and looked up at her properly.
“Hello, Vaela.”
“I want you and then Vorak next.” She replied.
Her honesty didn’t shock me. It never could. Vaela was many things, but subtle was only one of them when she was amused enough to bother.
I searched her face and found no cruelty there, no provocation for its own sake. Just desire spoken plainly.
“For you,” I said quietly, “or for Isla too?”
Vaela’s expression changed at that, becoming softer in a way most people would never notice.
“For us,” she said.
That answer mattered more than she knew.
I let my thumb trace once along her waist and held her gaze. “Then come here.”
Vaela didn’t hesitate. She moved closer until there was no space left between us, all heat and quiet certainty. Beneath her, I could still feel Isla, warm and watchful, not absent, only listening. That made something in me settle.
“You never ask for little things,” I said.
Vaela’s mouth curved. “Little things bore me.”
I laughed. “And Vorak knows this?”
“He will.”
I looked at her for a moment. “You say that like a threat.”
Vaela’s fingers tightened at my shoulders just enough for me to notice. “No. A certainty.”

I do now
Vaela looked at me with quiet amusement.
You love making Isla happy.”
“I do.”
“I’ve noticed.”
“I wasn’t trying to hide it.”
Satisfaction moved through Vaela’s eyes. “Good. Then stop talking.”
I smiled despite myself. “Commanding.”
“You like that.”
“I like clarity.”

“Then here is some.” Her hand slid to the back of my neck, firm and unhesitating. “Less talk and more action, Caius.”
Beneath her, Isla stirred with a flush of warmth that bled through the bond, embarrassed and wanting all at once. Vaela felt it and smiled, softer now.
I drew her in until her forehead brushed mine. “You ask like a challenge.”
Vaela’s breath touched my mouth. “No. I ask expecting to be answered.”
I answered by pulling her down into my lap and kissing her properly at last.
Vaela met me with immediate certainty, no hesitation, no softness offered for the sake of being easy. She kissed like claim and hunger and quiet satisfaction, as if she had already known I would stop thinking and start listening. Beneath her, Isla flared warm through the bond, shy and aching and fully present, and the combination of them nearly undid me.
My hands moved along Vaela’s back. I felt the way she settled when touch replaced talk. Not calmer. Never that. Just more honest.
“Better,” she said against my mouth.
“Insufferable.”
“And still right.”
I was about to laugh, but she kissed me again before I could.
I let the bond guide more than thought. Isla’s tenderness was there, wrapped through Vaela’s deeper wanting, making neither of them smaller. Vaela didn’t take from Isla. She carried her with her. I understood that now more clearly than before, and the understanding changed something in me.
My forehead rested briefly against hers.
“For both of you,” I said again.
Vaela’s expression shifted, some private satisfaction giving way to something rarer. Trust, perhaps. Or the

He reached over and brushed a loose strand of hair behind my ear.
“But until then?”
“Until then,” I said, “I’m staying exactly where I am.”
“I had a feeling you might.”
I smiled.
“And you?”
“I’m comfortable.”
“That’s not what I asked.”
He laughed quietly.
“I’ll be completely fine in another hour.”
“So you admit you’re not there yet.”
“I admit nothing.”
“Liar.”
“A little.”
“I knew it.”
He closed his eyes for a moment before opening them again.
“Vorak is extremely pleased with himself.”
“So is Vaela.”
That earned another smile from both of us.
I reached through the bond.
Vaela answered immediately.
‘Happy?‘
She sounded entirely too pleased with herself.
‘Very!
‘I told you he understood.’
‘You did.‘
‘I was right.
‘You usually think you are.‘

She laughed without the slightest shame.
“Because I usually am.
I couldn’t argue with that.
Caius watched me with quiet amusement.
“She’s talking again.”
“She is.”
“Should I be concerned?”
“Only if she decides she isn’t finished.”
He looked toward the ceiling.
“I finally understand why Vorak gives her whatever she asks.”
I laughed.
“Smart wolf.”
“He has learned through experience.”
The bond settled comfortably around all four of us.

Vorak remained content, and Vaela rested beside him without asking for anything more. They didn’t need words anymore. Their satisfaction flowed easily through the bond until it reached both Caius and me.
I slipped my hand into his.
“We should probably rest.”
“I think that’s the first sensible thing either of us has said today.”
“I’ve said several sensible things.”
“So have I.”
“We’ll let history decide.”
He smiled and laced his fingers through mine.
“Agreed.”

Outside the light had changed.
I hadn’t noticed when it happened. Somewhere between Vaela and the quiet that followed, the afternoon had moved on without us.
“We missed dinner,” I said.

Gaius didn’t open his eyes.
“Dena will manage.”
“She’ll know why.”
“The whole pack will know why.
I considered that for a moment.
“Does that bother you?” I asked.
“No,” he said. “Does it bother you?”
I thought about it honestly.
“No,” I said. “Not even a little.”
Vaela stirred inside me.
‘Good,‘ she said.
‘You’re eavesdropping,‘ I said.
‘I live here,’ she said. ‘I don’t eavesdrop. I simply exist.
I almost laughed out loud at that.
Caius opened one eye.
“Vaela?”
