The Alpha King And His Chosen Luna novel Chapter 264

The land that remind

The land that remembered

(Caius)

Orin started toward the building where we’d be staying, but Isla remained near the river. Her attention moved across Silvermere as though she wasn’t ready to go inside yet.

“Can we look around first?” she asked.

“Of course.”

I looked at Orin.

“Show her Silvermere.”

He nodded and changed direction. Instead of taking us toward the building he led us along the river and away from the center of the territory. Isla stayed beside me, watching everything we passed.

Several wolves greeted her along the way. Some stopped what they were doing and lowered their heads before continuing. Isla returned every greeting. Silvermere was already treating her as someone who belonged.

We passed several homes before reaching a garden near the river. A few children were helping an older woman gather vegetables. One little girl noticed Isla and waved. Isla smiled and waved back.

The girl hurried toward us and stopped in front of Isla. She looked up at her for a moment before smiling.

“You’re pretty.”

Isla laughed.

“Thank you.”

The girl ran back toward the garden. Isla watched her before we continued. There was something different about seeing her here among wolves who accepted her without question. Nobody looked at her as though she needed to prove anything.

We continued until the homes became fewer. The river curved toward a large field with trees surrounding most of it. Isla looked toward the other side and stopped walking. I followed her

gaze.

“Caius.”

“I see them.”

Three figures came from between the trees. Their upper bodies were human but the rest of them had the bodies of horses. I’d seen their kind before though it had been many years. Isla clearly hadn’t.

“Are those centaurs?”

“Yes.”

Her eyes remained on them.

“They’re real?”

I looked at her.

“Very real.”

The three centaurs continued toward us. Two were men and the third was a woman. Their attention went directly to Isla.

“Why are they here?” she asked.

Orin turned toward her.

“Silvermere protects more than wolves.”

Movement came from the trees before Isla could ask anything else. Several small figures appeared between the branches. Wings carried them toward the field. Isla stared.

“Fairies?”

Orin nodded.

“Yes.”

The fairies came closer. Most stayed away from wolf territories now. Silvermere had given them somewhere they could live without being disturbed.

“How long have they lived here?” Isla asked.

“Generations.”

Orin explained that Silvermere had become a home for creatures that needed protection. Some had come after losing their own territories. Others simply wanted somewhere they could live without being bothered. Silvermere had welcomed all of them.

The centaurs reached us first. The oldest stopped several feet in front of Isla and studied her.

Something is happening

Wolves farther across the field had stopped what they were doing. Others appeared along the path behind us. Their attention went toward Isla. Then they lowered their heads too.

“Why is everyone bowing? Isla asked

Onn looked around us

“They know what you are.”

Isla faced him.

“They knew that when I arrived”

“This is different.”

She looked around again.

“How?”

Orin glanced toward the creatures gathered in front of her. Centaurs, fairies and wolves had all responded without anyone telling them what to do. None appeared afraid. They were welcoming her.

“This territory was prepared for you before you were born,” Orin said.

Isla looked at him.

“And they know that?”

“Some know the story.”

The story of the Celestial child who never arrived had survived here for generations. Now Isla stood before them as their Celestial Queen. Silvermere had finally received the wolf it had once promised to protect.

“Silvermere was supposed to protect you,” Orin said.

Isla looked toward the centaurs. The oldest raised his head and placed one hand over his chest. The two beside him did the same.

The land thust remembered

“Welcome to Silvermere, Celestial Queen.”

Isla didn’t answer immediately. I stayed beside her and let her take in what was happening. She’d spent years being treated as though she had no value. Now an entire hidden territory was welcoming her.

“You don’t have to bow to me,” she said.

The centaur looked at her.

“We choose to.”

One of the fairies separated from the others and flew toward Isla. She stopped in front of her and waited. Isla held out her hand. The fairy landed on her palm.

Isla smiled as she brought her hand closer. The tiny creature looked up at her without fear.

“You’re beautiful,” Isla said.

The fairy smiled.

“So are you, Queen Isla.”

Isla laughed. Several wolves nearby smiled when they heard her. Even Orin looked pleased. I found myself watching her instead of everyone else.

The fairy left Isla’s hand and returned to the others. The centaurs rose but remained nearby. Isla continued looking around the field.

“I didn’t know places like this still existed,” she said.

“Most wolves don’t,” Orin answered.

Isla looked toward the fairies.

“That’s why Silvermere stayed hidden.”

“Partly.”

She turned toward him.

“What was the other reason?”

“Protection.”

Orin explained that hiding Silvermere protected everyone who lived there. Its location was shared only with wolves who had a reason to know. That secrecy had kept the territory safe and protected the creatures who called it home.

The land that remembered

Isla looked at me.

“My parents wanted me here because they knew I’d be safe.”

“Yes.”
