She is here
(Caius)
Isla kept her fingers against the name carved into the stone. isalienne had been left here by Lyrienne, just like the other marks we’d followed. The passage continued beyond us into the mountain. We finally had proof her mother had made it this far.
“We keep going,” Isla said. She looked toward the passage ahead of us. Nothing I said would convince he to turn around now. I wasn’t planning to try.
I looked at Zeron and Raith. The two warriors waited near the entrance while the others remained with the vehicles. I didn’t want everyone entering a place we knew nothing about. Someone needed to know where we’d gone.
“You two stay near the entrance,” I told the warriors. They nodded and moved back toward the opening. If we didn’t return, they knew where to start searching. Zeron and Raith would continue with us.
We moved farther into the passage. Old markings covered sections of the stone walls, though many had faded beyond recognition. Isla stayed near me while Vaela guided her forward. Vorak remained focused on something deeper inside.
‘It’s stronger, he said. His attention remained ahead of us. Whatever he’d sensed before reaching Frostvale hadn’t disappeared. We were moving closer to it.
‘Can you tell what it is?’ I asked. Vorak didn’t answer immediately. I felt him searching for something he understood. His uncertainty bothered me more than an answer would have.
‘Power,’ he finally said. I looked at Isla. Vaela appeared to be experiencing something similar. She kept glancing farther into the passage.
The path opened into a large cavern. Stone pillars surrounded an open area in the center. The divided circle had been carved into every pillar. Isla walked toward the nearest one.
“There are names,” she said. She pointed beneath the symbol. Dozens of names covered the lower part of the stone. Some were almost impossible to read.
Zeron moved toward another pillar. More names had been carved there. Several dates appeared beside them. Some went back farther than Wraithbone’s oldest records.
“Celestials?” Zeron asked. He looked toward Isla. She touched one of the names without answering. Vaela seemed to understand before any of us did.
‘They were here,’ Isla told me through our bond. Her attention moved across the cavern. Vaela says they were all here.’ She walked toward the center.
I followed her, A large circle had been carved into the floor with smaller symbols surrounding it. They were different from the divided circle we’d followed here. I recognized none of them.
“This is where they came?” Isla asked. She looked around at the names. I couldn’t give her an answer yet. There was nobody here to explain what we’d found.

message had said to find where the Celestials began. This place had to be part of what she’d meant.
Raith called from the other side of the cavern. He stood near another passage that disappeared behind the pillars. A divided eircle had been carved beside it. Beneath it was another message.
For Isalienne.
Isla came toward us. Her mother’s trait hadn’t ended at the entrance. Lyrienne had continued leaving directions after coming beneath the mountain. Whatever she’d wanted Isla to find was farther inside.
“She expected me to reach this place,” Isla said. She touched the words. Her expression showed more questions than answers. I wanted Lyrienne alive to answer every one of them herself.
We entered the second passage. Unlike the first, this one showed signs that someone had used it more recently. The ground wasn’t covered completely in dirt. A few footprints remained near the wall.
Zeron crouched to examine them. He looked farther ahead before standing again. The prints weren’t centuries old. Someone had walked through here recently.
“How recent?” I asked. Zeron studied the ground again. He couldn’t give me an exact answer. But we both knew what the tracks meant.
Isla had already understood. She moved ahead before I caught her hand. I wasn’t stopping her from continuing. I only wanted her beside me.
“Someone is here,” she said. Her eyes went toward the passage. Vaela had become more active. I could feel her through the bond now.
“Let Vaela tell you what she feels,” I said. Isla nodded and focused on her wolf. Zeron and Raith remained behind us. Nobody moved while we waited.
‘Isla.’ Vaela’s voice reached me through our bond with Isla. Something had changed. This wasn’t the same reaction she’d had to Lyrienne’s marks. Vaela was responding to something happening now.
Isla looked at me. I saw the realization beginning in her face. She touched the necklace Lyrienne had left behind. Then she turned toward the passage.
‘She’s here, Vaela said. Isla stopped moving. Vorak came forward inside me at the same moment. This time he recognized what waited ahead.
‘Celestial, Vorak said. I looked farther into the passage. He wasn’t sensing an old mark or power left in the stone. There was a living Celestial somewhere ahead of us.
“Vaela says she’s here,” Isla said. Hier voice carried everything she’d been holding since Silvermere. Hope was there, but so was fear of believing too much. I tightened my hold on her hand.
“Then we find her,” I said. Isla nodded and started forward again. We passed another divided circle and followed the passage around a turn. Light appeared farther ahead.
The passage opened into another part of the mountain. Trees grew beyond the opening, surrounded by stone walls that hid the land from outside. A small stream crossed the ground. Someone had built a home beside it.
