The Alpha King And His Chosen Luna novel Chapter 311

She’s Coming

(Isla)

The wolves sent to Frostvare returned the following afternoon. I was with Sera when one of them came looking for me. He’d delivered our message directly to Lyrienne as Caius had ordered. My mother had sent an answer back with him.

She’s coming,he said. She asked me to tell you she would leave Frostvale within the day.He lowered his head respectfully. She said there were a few things she needed to arrange before leaving.

Thank you.I couldn’t stop myself from smiling. Did she say how long she’ll stay?I hoped it wouldn’t only be for a day.

No.The wolf glanced toward Caius, who had joined us. She only said she would explain when she arrived. He waited until Caius dismissed him before leaving.

I looked at Caius as soon as we were alone. Lyrienne didn’t know why I’d asked her to come, but she’d agreed without hesitation. I wanted to tell her about the baby before anyone else did. Then there were Darius’s letters waiting for both of us.

She’ll probably be here tomorrow,I said. The journey from Frostvale wasn’t short. Maybe the following morning if she stops overnight.I was already counting the hours.

She’ll come.Caius took my hand. You don’t have to worry about that.He knew me too well.

I nodded and looked toward the doorway the wolf had disappeared through. My mother had spent centuries looking for me. Now I was waiting for her to come to my home. That still meant more to me than I knew how to explain.

Did you send your message?I asked. Caius had told me this morning he intended to contact his father. Or did you change your mind?I didn’t think he had.

I sent it.Caius looked at me. He should receive it within a few days.He hadn’t told his father why he wanted to visit.

Did you tell him about the baby?I asked. I already suspected the answer. Or are you waiting too?

I’m waiting.Caius’s answer came at once. I’d rather tell him when I see him.understood that better than I had the day before.

We were both carrying news for our parents. Mine was coming to Wraithbone while his lived far enough away that we’d need to travel to him. I wondered what his father would think of me. Then I wondered what his sister would think too.

I’d heard enough about her to be curious. Caius had called her persistent and opinionated, which had sounded more like affection than complaint. She was my age, and she’d known Caius in a way I hadn’t. I wanted to see that part of his life for myself.

Sera insisted I eat before I went anywhere else. I didn’t argue because my hunger had returned again. The food that had bothered me during the journey no longer made me feel sick. Instead, I seemed to want something every few hours.

<She’s Coming-

Claim

Vaela found the whole thing interesting. She paid more attention whenever I ate, as though she expected To understand the baby through my appetite. I told her that wasn’t going to work. She ignored me.

The pup needs food, Vaela said. Her attention remained on the fruit I’d taken. Eat another one.’ She sounded completely certain.

I laughed. Sera already fed me enough.I reached for another piece anyway. Vaela seemed pleased with

herself.

Caius found me eating again and said nothing. That was worse than if he’d teased me. I knew he was thinking about how little I’d wanted to eat on the journey home. His expression told me he approved of the change.

Don’t start,I warned him. I pointed at the chair across from me. You can sit there without commenting on how much I’ve eaten.I knew he would enjoy this far too much.

I didn’t say anything.Caius sat down. You’re arguing with something I haven’t done.He looked entirely innocent.

You were thinking it.I knew him well enough to be certain. Vaela is already telling me to eat more.” I didn’t need both of them doing it.

Caius laughed before reaching for some fruit himself. We stayed there until Pryor came to find him. Zeron had uncovered more information about the woman in the western territories. This time, Caius asked me to

come with him.

Orin was already in the library when we arrived. Zeron had learned that the woman’s mother traveled outside the western territories several times before her death. One journey had taken her north seventeen years ago. Orin recognized the year immediately.

That’s when she was searching for me,Orin said. He looked at the travel record. She never found this house.” His finger rested beside the date.

Do you know why she wanted the records?I asked. Orin had told us who searched for them but not what she’d hoped to find. Was she trying to destroy them? That mattered before we judged her daughter.

I don’t know.Orin looked at me. I never spoke to her.He wouldn’t pretend to know more than he did.

That left us with another question. Zeron had found no evidence that the daughter had ever searched for Keeper records herself. She lived an ordinary life from everything they’d learned so far. Approaching her as an enemy would be a mistake.

We talk to her,I said. Caius looked at me but didn’t interrupt. Not yet, but once Zeron finishes checking everything.I wanted the truth without frightening someone who might be innocent.

Agreed.Caius turned to Zeron. Finish the search first. He wanted the same thing I did.

Before Zeron could gather the records, another wolf appeared at the library entrance. He’d been stationed near Wraithbone’s northern boundary this morning. One of the patrols had seen someone approaching from the north. The wolf had asked them to send word ahead.
