Book 2:Chapter 47
At the Chester Mansion Dungeon
Marilyn (continued)
The woman stepped inside first, followed closely by the terrifying man whose gaze alone felt like a blade pressed to my throat. I stood frozen in the corner, every muscle locked in terror, unable to ·
move.
“Who are you?” I managed to force out, the words scraping past my dry throat.
No one answered.
I couldn’t bear to meet his eyes, so I dragged my gaze to the poised woman beside him. She wore
thin spectacles perched on her nose, exuding calm professionalism. His secretary, maybe. Which meant he could be one of my father’s business rivals, someone powerful enough to pull something
like this.
“What do you want from me-” I started again, but his voice cut through like a whip.
“You will not speak unless I tell you to.”
I swallowed hard, the lump in my throat threatening to choke me. How was I supposed to
negotiate, bargain, or even beg if I wasn’t allowed to open my mouth?
He cleared his throat and continued, tone cold and measured.
“Without any invitation, you marched into someone’s home and thought you could threaten her.
You certainly have nerves.”
So… this wasn’t about my father. Then who the hell was he?
“I can’t believe this small thing is what Idara has been running from,” he said, turning slightly toward the woman at his side.
My stomach dropped. He knew Idara? Had she paid him to do this? No, that made no sense. She was broke. She didn’t have that kind of money or connections.
The woman let out a soft, knowing laugh.
“Well, she had her people to help her out. That’s how the rich operate. Take old man Calisto, for example.”
Calisto? Was that their boss?
“Hmm. You’re right,” the man murmured, then fixed his gaze back on me.

I immediately dropped my eyes to the floor, heart hammering so hard I thought it might burst.
I
Truthfully, if he weren’t staring at me like he wanted to tear me apart, I would have admitted he
was exactly my type. Tall, strikingly handsome, the kind of face you couldn’t help but stare at. But
none of that mattered right now. My life was hanging by a thread.
“You must be Marilyn,” he said, his voice suddenly calm, almost gentle. For a fleeting second, it sounded like he might actually care.
Something about the smooth, captivating timbre made my chest tighten in a confusing way.
“Yes… I am,” I answered, voice trembling.
“Tell me,” he continued, “is it revenge you want… or are you obsessed with my mate?”
I blinked, confused. “Your… mate?”
He gave a single nod.
“I don’t know your mate,” I said, swallowing again.
A slow, dangerous smile curved his lips and somehow it terrified me more than his glare ever had.
“Oh, but you do.”
He sighed, the sound heavy with boredom.
“You’ve been hunting for her whereabouts for the past two months. So I really want to know: is it
revenge… or obsession?”
Idara. He was talking about Idara,
But why call her his “mate”? Was that some kind of code? Did Idara work for him now? Had she married that old man Calisto they mentioned? Was this man dangerous?
My heart flipped violently in my chest.
“Okay-fine,” I rushed out. “If you want me to leave her alone, I will. You’ll never see me near her
again. I swear.”
All I needed was to get out of here. Once I was free, I’d tell my father everything. We’d track these people down, make them pay for putting me through this nightmare.
“Too late for that,” he said flatly, shattering every scrap of hope I had left.
“You should have walked away before you started tracking her down. That was your mistake.”
He held my gaze without blinking.

“So, as punishment, until you truly understand, you’ll stay right here until I decide you’ve learned your lesson.”
I shook my head frantically. “No-please, I can’t. I can’t stay here another second.”
Tears burned behind my eyes, threatening to spill.
He stepped closer. The air around us thickened, turning heavy and suffocating in a way I couldn’t
explain.
“If you want even a shred of mercy from me,” he said quietly, dangerously, “answer the question
Revenge… or obsession with my mate?”
My mouth fell open, but no sound came out.
Was it revenge? Or obsession?
I didn’t know how to answer, because it was both.
All those years, I’d torn her down to build myself up. Humiliated her in front of everyone just to feel superior. Offered a “helping hand” only after I’d already made her feel worthless.
But I also gave her everything. When no one else would even look at her, when she was that fat, pathetic nobody, I let her stand next to me. I made her relevant. Because of me, she got the life she never could have dreamed of on her own. Because of me, she even landed the man of her dreams.
Everything Idara had become was because of me. She was mine, my creation, my property. And after everything I gave her, she stabbed me in the back and ran.
So yes… I wanted revenge.
And yes… she belonged to me.
“I see,” he said suddenly, cutting straight through my spiraling thoughts. “It’s both, then.”
My eyes widened in panic. “No-I haven’t said anything yet! It’s not like that-”
“No need.” He stepped back, calm and final. “Your face told me everything I needed to know. My
