Chapter 71

Osborne

I was arranging the stack of papers on my desk when Alex walked in. He looked uneasy, his eyes

darting briefly before meeting mine.

“The Alpha is back,” he said, voice low. “He’s requested your presence.”

I arched my brow and nodded. “And what about what I asked of you?”

Alex gave a faint smile. “He’s on it.”

Good. I rose from my seat, straightening my jacket before leaving the office.

Father was pacing the length of the room when I entered. The weight of tension hung heavy in the

air.

“How did it go with him?” I asked, my voice calm but edged.

He spun to face me. “There will be war, Osborne. He bit where he shouldn’t have.”

I smirked faintly. That was what I wanted to hear. Words without actions are nothing but smoke

without fire.

“Tell me whenever you’re ready,” I said smoothly, a smile playing on my lips.

He nodded once. It was final.

We were going to play a little with the Waterford Pack, to remind them who we are.

Later, I pushed open the door to my room and found Aina in front of the mirror. She was studying

her reflection with a small frown.

I walked over, slipped my arms around her waist from behind, and pressed a kiss to her neck. “What’s up?” I murmured, teasingly biting her ear.

“I think I’m getting… chubbier,” she said with a pout.

I froze, then without thinking burst out laughing.

“Don’t laugh,” she protested, her fake tears making me laugh harder.

“I’m serious,” she added, still looking at herself critically.

“You are? I didn’t even notice,” I said honestly, still grinning.

She shook her head. “And you go around saying I’m perfect.”

I stepped back a little, studying her properly this time. “No one is ever perfect, Aina. But I like your

curves, your tummy-everything you think isn’t beautiful. I love them. And that’s all that matters.”

She bit her lower lip. “Yeah… but I don’t want to become obese,” she whispered.

I smiled and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “Okay, this is what we’ll do. For your health and your peace of mind.”

She perked up a little, listening closely.

“We’ll cut down your carbs-not completely, just a little-and you’ll go running with me every morning.

How about that?”

Her head bobbed so fast it made me chuckle.

“Okay, I like that. There was a time I used to do that, and so much more…” she said, trailing off with

a mischievous glint in her eyes. “Oh, you don’t even know what I did.”

I laughed at her tone. She was effortlessly funny, even when she wasn’t trying to be.

“Oh? Tell me. What did you do?” I teased.

She shook her head with a sly smile. “You don’t want to know.”

“Now I really want to know,” I insisted.

“Nope,” she replied, crossing her arms playfully.

We went back and forth like that, our laughter filling the room. All the while I watched my wife, thinking how she was the most priceless jewel in my life. Without Aina, I’d be nothing.

I loved her until death-and even after.

It had been a full day, and still, no one knew where Bella had gone.

We had searched the entire pack grounds, every corner, every hall, every path in the woods-but there was no trace of her. Her phone and those of her guards were dead, unreachable.

A heaviness sat in my chest like a stone. I could not lose my child-not like I lost her mother. Bella was the most precious thing in my life, the one I had built everything for, the one who carried the weight of my legacy.

The night had fallen, but we hadn’t stopped searching. Torches lit our way as we combed through the forest, calling her name into the dark. Anger simmered under my fear-why hadn’t she told anyone where she was going? The maids said she’d sent a little girl to run an errand to Silver Crest Pack, but because of the border closure, it hadn’t gone through. And then, without a word, she left

with two guards.

That was the last time anyone had seen her.

By morning, if she still wasn’t found, I would have no choice but to declare her missing. The

thought hollowed me out. My heart pounded violently in my chest, every beat a reminder that I was

failing her. Everything I had built-my pack, my power, my bloodline-was for her. I had even

considered naming her as my successor instead of my bastard son. And now… she was nowhere

to be found.

My phone rang. I snatched it up.

“Alpha, we’ve found her car,” one of my men said, breathless. “In the woods, close to the main

stream.”

“Get the car ready. To the woods-now!” I barked.

We drove fast, the night blurring past us, until we reached the stream. Just as he said, Bella’s car

was there, abandoned in the middle of nowhere. My chest tightened as I stepped out.

“What the hell were you doing here, Bella?” I muttered under my breath.

One of my men approached, his expression grim. My stomach sank.

“My Alpha… we found signs of a struggle. And… this.”

He held out strands of golden hair. Bella’s hair.

My knees nearly gave way. I clenched my fists to steady myself, fury and fear tearing me apart.

“Find her,” I growled, my voice cracking. “Now!”

We pushed deeper into the woods. My men fanned out, following the trail until we came across

torn clothes scattered on the ground. I knew them instantly-they were Bella’s. My breath caught in

my throat.

“Bella…” I whispered, before breaking into a run. My men followed, until the trees opened up to

reveal a small hut.

And there-her guards. What remained of them. The sight of their bodies made my legs buckle. I gritted my teeth and forced myself forward, because if I stopped now, I would never forgive

myself.
