Chapter 81

Osborne

The years I have been Alpha have been tremendous. It isn’t an easy task, but I take pride in what I have done. The challenges, the sleepless nights, the decisions that could make or break a

pack-I’ve lived through all of it and I’m still standing.

“Alpha, it’s Maurice,” Alex said, handing me the phone.

It would be best to help him… to help that damn pack. But in truth, it’s not really the pack I care

about-it’s him. Maurice. The son I can work with. Not the father.

“Yes, Alpha Maurice,” I answered as I took the call.

He didn’t speak immediately, took a second before his voice came through. “It’s about what I told you… I just wanted to know if I should still put my hopes on you or look somewhere else.” as if he

has other options.

“Don’t look somewhere else, Maurice,” I said firmly. “I’ll be doing you this favor for old time’s sake.”

The moment the words left my mouth, I heard him sigh in relief. I almost chuckled. I knew it wasn’t easy for him to ask. Alpha Hamilton never taught that boy much-especially not how to run a pack-but I must admit, for the few years he has led, he’s done a fair job holding everything

together.

“Thank you so much, Alpha Osborne. I’ll make sure you do not regret it,” he said quickly.

I nodded slightly, though he couldn’t see me. “Better. My beta will discuss the details with you,” I told him before cutting off the call.

Alex looked at me, curiosity all over his face. “Do you think it’s a good idea to help him?”

I didn’t answer right away. I had to think about the right response.

Because the truth is-it’s both a yes and no for me.

Yes, because I’ve always taken Maurice as family. I watched him grow up, and watched the struggles that shaped him. He deserves a chance.

And no, because of the past. Because of the history between me, Hamilton, and Bella.

Bella.

Just the sound of her name made a smile creep onto my face-not the good kind. The kind that comes with old memories and bitter laughter.

Chapter 81

The last I heard of her, she was bought by Dylan Cook. Not just anyone, but that Dylan, whose best friend died seven years ago because of a certain Bella Maxwell. And to think he once had a crush

on the deceased too. Life really has its ways.

I can only imagine what kind of life Dylan is putting her through now. Probably not a pleasant one.

Not with the kind of man he is, that guy is a maniac from the little I know of him.

I leaned back in my chair, my thoughts returning to Maurice.

“Yes,” I said finally, answering Alex. “I think it’s a good idea. At least to try him.” Aina was right-l should give him a chance to prove himself. I can’t judge the son just because the father was evi

Ah, I almost forgot, it’s almost lunchtime. A small smile crossed my lips as I got up from my seat have to go eat lunch with my family. Do you care to join?” I asked Alex.

He shook his head quickly. “No, Alpha, I’m good.”

I nodded, patting him on the shoulder before turning to leave. Aina had made me swear not to skip meals again, and that I must always eat with her and our little princess. She said it would be good for our daughter to see me more often and not just occasionally-and she was right.

But honestly, the thought of seeing them again made my steps quicken.

The moment I entered the dining area, my daughter ran straight into my arms, her small feet pattering across the floor. “Dada!” she squealed, smiling so brightly it warmed my heart instantly.

I lifted her up and kissed her cheek. “Thought you wouldn’t make it,” Aina said as she came around

the table, her voice playful but soft.

I walked over to her, still holding our daughter, and leaned in to smell her hair. That scent-it always managed to calm me no matter how long the day had been.

“I didn’t want to face the consequences if I disobeyed you,” I said with a small grin.

She laughed lightly, shaking her head. “Good. It’s nice to know you’re learning not to mess with me.”

“Is that so?” I teased, arching a brow.

“For that,” she said, smiling up at me, “I’ll give you a gift.”

I couldn’t help the grin that spread from ear to ear. “And what would that be?” I asked, my voice low, almost a whisper.

“You’ll know when you see it,” she winked, her tone full of mischief.

I burst out laughing, and though Alina had no idea what was so funny, she joined in anyway-her laughter echoing through the room and mixing with ours.

For a moment, everything else, the past, the weight of leadership, the ghosts of Hamilton and Bella, faded away.

All that mattered was here, in my arms.

My family.
