Chapter 86-1
“Here, this dress suits the madam perfectly,” the saleswoman said, handing the gown over to the maid. “Right this way, please – you can make the payment here. Or is there anything else you’d like
to see?”
The maid turned to me for confirmation, and I gave a small shake of my head. She nodded politely and guided my wheelchair toward the cashier.
I still wasn’t sure what the saleswoman had planned, but I knew one thing – I had to trust her and play along. It seemed she truly intended to help me, and this might be my only chance.
“Um, could I borrow your guards for a moment? There’s something heavy I’d like them to move,”
the saleswoman asked politely.
Oh, so this was her plan.
The maid turned to me for approval, and I quickly stammered, “It wouldn’t hurt to lend her a helping
hand.”
She nodded without suspicion. “I’ll go get them,” she said before walking off.
The moment she disappeared, the saleswoman hurried closer to me, her voice dropping to a whisper. “Be ready, ma’am. This is your chance.”
My heart pounded as I nodded. She was kind-far kinder than I expected. She hadn’t even bothered asking for payment; she just wanted to help me.
Within moments, the maid returned with the guards. “Here they are,” she said.
“Yes, I’d appreciate it if you could lift this from here to there,” the saleswoman instructed, pointing toward a stack of boxes. The guards glanced at me briefly, and I gave a small nod of approval. They went about their task without question, leaving the maid beside me.
“Please proceed with the payment,” the saleswoman said, motioning toward the counter.
The maid obediently stepped forward to pay for the goods, while the guards remained busy moving the boxes. As the maid counted out the money, the saleswoman caught my gaze and gave
two sharp nods-the signal.
It was time to run.
I backed away slowly, inch by inch, my heartbeat loud in my ears. The maid’s attention was still fixed on the cashier, and the guards were busy with the boxes the saleswoman had asked them to lift. My palms were slick with sweat as I gripped the wheels tighter. Every nerve in my body

screamed for me to move-now.

When I had backed up enough, I turned sharply and pushed with all the strength I had left. My heart thundered as the wheels rolled over the smooth marble floor, picking up speed. I didn’t dare look back. I couldn’t. One glance might ruin everything. All I could think was please, don’t notice… please, not yet.
I put on the automatic mode once I reached the hallway, now they won’t be able to hear it, and the motor hummed quietly beneath me. I maneuvered past shoppers and displays, my breath catching
every time someone brushed too close. The mall stretched endlessly before me, a maze of light
and chatter that somehow made me feel both invisible and exposed.
When I burst through the main glass doors, the cool air hit my face like a slap. I gasped, half from shock, half from the feel of freedom. For the first time in three years, I was outside alone. The sun
was blinding, but I didn’t stop-l wheeled faster down the ramp, every spin of the wheel carrying me
farther from the mall.
I didn’t know where I was going, and for once, I didn’t care. People stared as I passed, some
whispering, some looking away, but no one stopped me. The streets ahead looked endless, terrifying… but free.
When I finally slowed, lungs burning, I risked a glance over my shoulder. No one was following. No
guards. No maid. Just the distant hum of traffic. My chest tightened with a strange, giddy mix of
fear and disbelief. I’d actually done it. I’d escaped.
