The Alpha's Chubby Obsession. novel Chapter 97

Chapter 91

I wanted to melt right there on the spot, my entire body freezing as my eyes widened. The way he

spoke, so sharp, so certain, made it clear he meant every word.

His breathing was rough, his chest rising and falling as he stared down at me, trying barely to hold back his anger. “For now, leave,” he ordered, his voice low but filled with restrained fury

I didn’t wait a second longer. I turned on my heels and ran, my heart pounding in my chest. No…it

can’t be true. I can’t be mated to him.

Rumors about Alpha Maurice flooded my mind, the whispers that he was far more ruthless than Bella ever was. That he kept the former Alpha, his own father, locked away in the mansion, trapped

in a comatose state.

They said the old Alpha was kept in the darkest part of the estate, hidden from everyone’s eyes, tended only by one maid who had signed a confidentiality agreement never to speak of what she

saw.

I shuddered, my breathing uneven as I reached the end of the corridor. I couldn’t believe it. Of all people, I had to be mated to Alpha Maurice.

And the worst part? He didn’t look like a man who intended to reject me.

As my feet carried me toward the maids’ quarters, my heart pounded so hard it echoed in my ears.

I already knew what I was about to do-run. I was going to get as far away from this place as possible. I didn’t care where I ended up; I just knew I couldn’t stay here another second. I refused

to be mated to him.

“Hey, did the Alpha fire you?” Feli, one of my closest friends, asked the moment she saw me rush

I shook my head quickly, fumbling with my bag as I started packing my few belongings. “No, he didn’t. You don’t understand, Feli-l have to go,” I said, my voice trembling. Tears stung my eyes and started spilling down my cheeks before I could stop them.

“Then why are you leaving?” she pressed, confusion etched across her face.

Her question caught the attention of the other maids, who began to gather around, curious and concerned. The small room filled with murmurs and worried glances.

“You have to tell us, Octavia,” one of them insisted.

I froze, gripping the edge of my bag tightly until my knuckles turned white. The pressure in my chest built up until I couldn’t hold it anymore. “The Alpha is my mate!” I blurted out, my voice

breaking as the words left my mouth.

The room fell silent. Every single one of them went still, eyes wide in shock.

“What?” Rosa finally managed to say, her voice barely above a whisper.

Claud

“And that’s why you’re leaving?” Feli added, disbelief all over her face. “That’s good news, Octavia!

You’re lucky-”

But the words died on her lips when she saw my expression. There was no joy in my face, only fear,

raw, trembling fear that made the air around us heavy.

The others exchanged glances, their smiles fading. They knew. They all knew what I had gone through before.

“Are you… afraid?” another maid asked softly.

I nodded, swallowing hard. My hands were shaking.

Rosa and Feli, who had been standing standing side by side lowered their eyes. They were there

that day-when Mistress Bella almost killed me and they dragged me across the floor like I was less

than a deer, when my blood painted the tiles as if I were some wounded animal caught in a trap.

That memory was burned into all of us present that day.

And now, to be mated to her brother, the man rumored to be even worse than she was, it felt like

fate was mocking me.

“If that’s the case,” Rosa said, “then we’ll cover up for you. You can go through the back door.” They

all nodded on agreement, and I wiped my face clean from the tears. “Thank you,” I whispered, and

they came one after the other to hug me.

Maurice

God, she looked like she was about to collapse. How could someone fear another person so much

that she trembled like a leaf, like she’d just seen a ghost?

I dragged a hand through my hair and let out a hollow, bitter laugh. So this is what I get for finally

meeting the mate I’d longed to find for years? What a cruel joke.

She looked at me as if I were some kind of monster. But then… what she’d thought, that she can’t be with me because Bella almost killed her. The words kept echoing in my head, burning through my thoughts. What the hell did Bella do to her?

My eyes darkened at the thought, a surge of anger twisting in my chest. I’d get to the bottom of it, that much was certain. But then, I had to excuse her before she fainted right there in front of me.

Still, I couldn’t ignore the strange, almost ironic amusement that stirred inside me. A mate who fears me, how fitting. Not exactly what I had envisioned, but somehow it made sense.
