The City That Drowned in the Sound
I recognised that voice immediately, I mean how could I not, as much as I disliked the man it didn’t change the fact that for some reason, his voice called to me.
Alpha Samuel Bowers, the man infuriated me but there was no denying that my body and my wolf reacted to him, no matter how hard I tried to fight it.
I watched the children and I could see the terrified look in their eyes when they heard their fathers voice. “It’s ok dears, just continue eating, everything is going to be fine.” I tell them, Franklin doesn’t look convinced but he continues eating and so does Sophia.
“Where are they?” He asks Gavin as his voice echoes down the hall.
“They….They’re in the dining room Alpha, they’re having lunch.” Gavin replied him nervously and I understood why, Samuel had no idea that I was here, well he was about to.
“I see they finally decided to give up on their foolishness.” Samuel says and next thing I hear footsteps approaching the dining room.
Immediately he walked in, his eyes fell on me and I could see the shocked expression on his face.
As usual he was in an all black suit, but this was a three piece and he looked like he just stepped of the set of a GQ model photo shoot and it made my wolf purr and I internally told her to stop. Usually my wolf Leila and I are in sync when it comes to everything but when it comes to the matter of Alpha Samuel Bowers, we are on opposite sides.
“Why is she here?” Samue asked Gavin who was standing next to him. I mean the nerve of this man, he was looking right at me with that cold glint in his eyes, but I guess I wasn’t worthy of his words.
I mean even if he didn’t like me, he could at least be cordial, it wouldn’t take anything from him. But I guess, what do I expect from an Alpha, my father was the same way.
I looked over at Gavin who had this guilty and scared look on his face and he was literally shaking in his boots, I couldn’t let him go down for this when he was just doing what was best for the kids unlike their own father.
I could see that Gavin was about to open his mouth to say something and I immediately interrupted him. “Well, I happened to be in the area and I was missing the children, so I came over to visit. Gavin saw me and couldn’t help but tell me what was going on, that the kids were

on a hunger strike because of me. I felt so nad and I begged him to let me coax them to eat something. He couldn’t say no to me, and at the same time, he wanted the children to eat. That’s why he let me in.”
I explain to him, taking all the blame so Gavin will be spared, I wouldn’t put it past Samuel to fire him and it’s clear how much he cares about the kids, he shouldn’t be fired just because he was taking care of them.
Samuel’s gaze went from me to Gavin. Like he was trying to figure out if I was telling the truth
or not.
He looked into my eyes, but I did not back down even though his eyes wanted to drag me in, they were scary and hypnotising at the same time.
I stared right back at him, not blinking or flinching so he knows that he doesn’t scare me.
A scorching dark light flashed across his eyes and he was looking at me in a way that I didn’t understand.
“Daddy, you are not to be mean to Ms. Natalie. You’d have to go through me first if you’re going to do so.” Franklin says to his father as he comes to stand in front of me.
As Franklin said those words, even Sophia came and stood in front of me. She held onto her father’s leg as if she was afraid Samuel was going to do something.
Samuel lowered his head and looked at the two children hanging onto him. He frowned and said, “They’re really pulling out all the stops for you.” He says and I don’t know why but I feel guilty a little.
I mean he was their father at the end of the day and I know that I would hate it if Xavier and Clayton were defending someone else from me, it would break my heart. But it was clear that in just a little while, these kids were extremely protective over me.
Now there was no way they could take down their father but they were ready to do their best if he raised his hand against me or was rude to me.
Samuel sighed and removed the both of them from his legs.
“You’ve seen her and had some food. Now, it’s time for you two to head upstairs. I have something to discuss with her in private.”
Franklin and Sophia refused to leave.
He sighed again and said, “Don’t worry. I won’t bully her.”

After hearing the promise from Samuel, the children left the dining room reluctantly and went back to their room and Gavin followed them out.
Which meant that it was now only Samuel and I in the room and we hadn’t even said anything yet but the atmosphere was charged.
“Why did you lie for Gavin?” He asks me.
“You knew, but you didn’t say anything,” I asked, I was shocked, I pride myself on having a very good poker face.
“Gavin did it for the children, so don’t be too hard on him. Even if he’s willing to be punished, your staff and your children would be dejected to see that happen.”
“Aren’t you good at reading people.” He asks as he looks at me like he’s trying to figure me out or something.
“Same as you.” I tell him.
He placed his hand under his chin and asked, “So you came because Gavin asked you to?”
He asked the question in a very bored tone and I couldn’t help but get angry.
“Of course I came, I mean when.he told me what was going on, I thought that maybe he was exaggerating but I got here and saw that he wasn’t. Alpha Bowers, children aren’t the same as adults. We can skip a meal or two, but they can’t.”
I mean is this what he does? He neglects his children and leaves them for his staff to take care off while he goes around kissing random women? I ask myself as I recalm what happened in the cafe.
“Besides, Sophia and Franklin are your children, your children Alpha Bowers. You should do better, I mean leaving them to starve and then not even being here. It’s one thing to be busy with work, but isn’t it too much to be entangled with a woman on top of that?” I accidentally blurt out that last part.
He looked at me meaningfully and asked, “Woman?”
