NATALIE.

No way it was raining, my luck today couldn’t be this bad. First I cry in front of Samuel, then I react like I’m in heat when I’m close to him and now this.

Hopefully it isn’t that heavy and I can still get a cab, but of course as I step outside, it’s raining cats and dogs.

Even if I managed to hail a cab, it would be too dangerous for the driver to drive on a rainy night like this.

Then… How am I supposed to go home?

I went back into the house and I made my way into the living room to find Gavin, maybe he could help me, he was the one that arranged the car that took me home the last time I was here.

i circled the living room on the first floor to look for Gavin, but the man was nowhere to be

seen.

“Eh? Where is Gavin?” I ask myself, he might be in the kitchen but I have no idea where the kitchen is in this mansion.

I was so confused, I took a step backward. Unknowingly, I bumped into someone with a firm and broad chest.

The sudden impact caused me to lose my balance. Just when I was about to fall to the ground, I was grabbed by the waist and pulled into someone’s arms.

Upon smelling the faint scent of oak, I lifted my head to see who the person was, but just by his scent, I already knew who it was.

In a trance, I saw the his flawless features appear in front of me. And he was staring at me intensely with his captivating eyes, so might see them as scary but I find them captivating

“Ah…” I scream when I realise that this is the third time in less than an hour that I have embarrassed myself in front of him.

Pursing his lips, Samuel takes back his hand after helping me up.

“Do I look that frightening, Ms. Edmund?” He asks with a serious face.

“Of course not Alpha Bowers? You’re not frightening…” Avoiding his intense stare, I murmured, “Is he a ghost? He didn’t make a sound at all…”

“You know I can hear you right?” He asks and immediately I feel my face heat up.

Wolf hearing, how could I forget.

Quirking my lips into a smile, I look up at him and reply, “Yeah of course I know that and I was just saying.thank you for helping me up, Alpha Bowers.”

“You’re welcome.” He says, thankfully not bringing up the fact that I implied that he might be a ghost.

Then, I glanced at the window and noticed that it was still raining heavily. Additionally, it seemed like there would be a storm soon as dark clouds began to gather in the sky.

Why me? I have the boys alone at home and I know that they can survive without me for one night, but still.

I turn around and see that Samuel is about to leave. “Hold up!” I say hurriedly.

“Is there anything else?” Samuel stopped in his tracks and asked.

“Um… Yes! Well…” I shook my head and said in embarrassment, “Samuel, c–can I stay over tonight?”

I can’t believe that I just said those words.

By the look on his face, he was clearly taken aback by my sudden request. I really hoped he would just say yes and did not make me beg for it, because I think I would rather take my chances with the rain than to do that.

But as he stared at me with that smirk on his face, I finally realized that my words sounded like an ambiguous request. Hurriedly, I explained, “It’s not safe to drive in this weather. May I spend the night in the guest room? I’ll leave first thing in the morning.” I said, hoping that would help him to say yes.

“Ok,” he replied.

Feeling relieved, I nodded.

“Follow me.” He said, then he showed me the way to the guest room on the second floor.

When I arrived at the door, my phone started buzzing and there are only two people that could be calling me by this time, the boys or the office.

I brought out my phone and I smiled when I saw the caller ID, it was Xavier but I saved his name as “sweetheart” on my phone.

Knowing that it was my son, I answered the phone without thinking twice.

“Mommy, where are you?” He asks immediately I pick up the call.

“Hi, Sweetheart. I’m putting up at a friend’s house for the night because I’m stuck in the rain. I’ll be back tomorrow morning. Have you and your brother had dinner?” I ask him.

“What friend? Do I know them?” He asks and of course that’s the part of my sentence that he chooses to focus on.

“No, you don’t know this friend. Now have you and your brother had dinner?” I ask him again.

“Yes mummy, we heated up the lasagna that you made.” He tells me.

“Good, that’s good. Remember to check if the windows are shut. Don’t kick the sheets away when you sleep, okay? Give me a kiss, all right?“,

Just as I was waiting for Xavier to kiss me goodnight, of course that was the moment Samuel thought would be a good time to clear his throat.

Not knowing how to explain the situation, I chose to remain silent.

At the same time, Xavier, who was on the other end of the line, had picked up on the sound

gasp. which I deduced from his shocked

“Are you staying at a man’s house, Mommy? Have you found us a stepfather? How is he? Is he handsome? Is he rich? Does he treat you well?” He asked in excitement.

I was at a loss for words. When I turned around, I met Samuel’s intense stare and lowered her gaze with guilt.

“Don’t talk nonsense. That’s not what happened. I’ll explain once I get back. Do you want to kiss me over the phone? Otherwise, I’m going to hang up.”

Hearing that, my boy had no choice but to kiss his mother goodnight and hang up the call.

After ending the phone call, I turned around to face Samuel, who looked as if nothing had happened, and stared at him.

“So you couldn’t hold yourself back or do that somewhere else?” I asked.
