The Alpha’s Plus Size Obsession novel Chapter 18

Mary Ann

I tucked the unsigned note deep into the bottom drawer of my desk in the Luna Wing and closed it firmly. The cruel words still echoed in my mind, but I refused to let them show on my face. Appearing frightened would only give whoever sent it power over me. I assumed it came from someone who resented the alliance, perhaps one of the families still hurting from the clashes or a woman who had hoped for a different Luna. It did not matter. I would not let fear dictate my actions. The Unity Festival was too important.

The next few days passed in a whirlwind of final preparations. I moved between the meadow, the kitchens, and the infirmary with steady purpose, double–checking supplies and making sure both packs felt included. The work kept my hands busy and my mind focused. Still, the note lingered like a shadow at the edges of my thoughts. I smiled more brightly at the children and listened more carefully to the elders, determined that no one would see the c***k in my confidence.

Elara, the head healer, noticed during one of my visits to review recovery supplies. She set down a bundle of herbs and studied me with kind but sharp eyes. “You seem distracted today, Luna. Is something wrong?”

I forced a small smile and shook my head. “I am only tired. The festival preparations have kept me up late. Nothing more.”

She did not look entirely convinced, but she let the matter drop with a gentle pat on my arm. I hated lying to her, but admitting the truth felt too dangerous. Speaking the threat aloud would make it real in a way I was not ready for. Instead, I threw myself back into the work, helping sort bandages and listening to stories from the warriors who were still healing.

Later that afternoon, I visited the orphan quarters as I had started doing regularly. The children greeted me with bright eyes and eager hugs. Little Tessa, a bright–eyed girl of about seven with messy braids, climbed into my lap as I read them a story about a brave wolf who united two rival packs. When the story ended, she looked up at me with serious eyes.

“Does Alpha Modric dislike you?” she asked suddenly.

The question caught me completely off guard. I blinked, my heart squeezing painfully in my chest. “Why would you think that, sweetheart?”
