The Alpha’s Plus Size Obsession novel Chapter 17

17

Mary Ann

The approved proposal came back to me the next morning with no note, no explanation, nothing but Modric’s bold signature at the bottom. I stared at it for a long moment in the quiet of the Luna Wing study, tracing the strong lines of his name with my fingertip. Surprise washed over me. He had actually agreed. After the tense argument in his study and days of deliberate avoidance, he had given permission without a single word of praise or acknowledgment. It stung more than I wanted to admit, but I pushed the hurt aside. This was not about him. It was about the pack.

I threw myself into organizing the Unity Festival with quiet determination. Meetings with elders from both Ironclaw and Mooncrest filled my days. We chose a neutral meadow between territories for the gathering, planned simple shared meals, storytelling circles for the elders, and games for the children. I worked late into the evenings, coordinating supplies and making sure every detail supported healing rather than reopening old wounds.

Not everyone welcomed my involvement. Some Ironclaw women resisted taking instructions from a Mooncrest Luna. During one planning session, a sharp–featured woman named Lila crossed her arms and looked me up and down. “Why should we follow suggestions from someone who does not even share our Alpha’s bed? You are too large to lead the ceremonial dance anyway. You would embarrass the entire pack.”

The words landed heavily, echoing old taunts from the Academy. I felt the heat rise in my cheeks, but I kept my voice calm and even. “I will assign myself another role then. The children’s storytelling circle needs coordination. I can handle that.” I did not give her the satisfaction of seeing me react emotionally. Instead, I moved the conversation forward, focusing on tasks that needed doing.

Later that afternoon, as the sun dipped low, Elder Mira found me sitting alone on a bench near the gardens. She sat beside me with a knowing look. “You should not always make yourself smaller to keep others comfortable, child. Your size is not a flaw. It is part of your strength. The Moon Goddess gave you that body for a reason. Own it.”
