Laila’s POV

Riley, Hannah, Sarah, Ava, and I stood in the back of the Lycan pack house.

Ava was in a cute dress with a big pink bow in the back. She swayed back and forth just to watch the skirts flutter. In her hands she held a basket filled with flower petals. Any moment now, the music would begin and she would be the first down the aisle. She’d walk the whole way to the front, leaving flower petals on the ground. There, at the front of the aisle, Jason would be waiting.

Seeing her so happy and sweet made tears fill my eyes. I fought to hold them back, which had been an ongoing battle since this morning, when I’d woken up with a kiss from Jason and a promise to see him later, as husband and wife.

This was nothing but a formality at this point. We had already joined our packs and been declared twin Alphas, sharing the title. We’d been living together since the moment he returned to me. I had even stopped my birth control and would likely fall pregnant very soon with how we couldn’t keep our hands off of each other for any lengthy amount of time.

In spirit, especially since we were already bonded, and privately had shared mating bites. But this formal event, let it be publically known, and would allow me to officially become Jason’s wife, now and forever.

Finally.

Sarah stepped forward and pulled me into a hug. In a quiet moment, she had apologized to me for everything that had transpired, and I had forgiven her. Now, I saw her as not just a mother-in-law but also a friend.

“I’m so happy,” she said, sobbing. She had lost the battle against tears long ago. “I had always hoped this would happen, and now here it is. I can’t believe it… Laila, you are my daughter forever.”

She squeezed me, and with her tears and her words, I couldn’t help it anymore. Some tears sneaked out.

“Your makeup!” Riley called out from nearby.

Sarah and I both laughed as we ended our hug.

“Oh, I’m sorry,” Sarah said, smiling. She dabbed at her eyes with a tissue. “I’m going to go take my seat before I turn even more into a blubbering mess. I don’t want to take anyone down with me.”

“After the ceremony, she can ruin her makeup,” Riley said, smiling too. “But not before!”

Sarah gave me one last smile, then disappeared out the door to find her seat among the crowd.

Hannah came forward next, with tissues and a makeup brush. She was the most talented with makeup among us and with a quick touch-up, had me looking whole again. At least for now. The tears were still threatening, the dam ready to break.

On Hannah’s finger was her own diamond engagement ring.

“How is Carter?” I asked.

She blushed. I knew their wedding wouldn’t be long after ours. Carter had even been invited and was sitting out there, waiting for the true love of his life to return to his side.

He’d have to wait until the end of the ceremony, because Hannah was wearing one of my seafoam bridesmaid dresses.

Riley had on the other.

As Hannah stepped back, taking her position, Riley came forward and hugged me tightly. I held her back in equal fervor.

“Thank you,” I told her. “Out of everyone, you always believed in me.”

“I’m not the only one,” she said, and my heart ached. I knew she was talking about Vanessa Harper.” She’s looking down on you today, smiling, so, so happy for you.”

I wasn’t sure how Vanessa would feel about me. I hadn’t done much to save her company. But… with all that happened… Yes, I was sure Vanessa had always thought there was more to life than money. What she had given me was the chance to find that for myself.

Closing my eyes, I sent up a silent thank you to her, hoping she could hear it from the afterlife, from the side of the Goddess, where she had to be. She had been the hero, the saint, that I had needed most. It was only because of her and her faith in me that I could be here at all.
