The Apocalypse Survival Manual (Three Days Before Doomsday, I Stockpiled Billions) novel Chapter 111

Chapter 111

The newcomers didn’t look friendly.

Everyone tensed up, especially the Goodmans. They had never been in a situation like this. They were educated, quiet people.

Unfortunately, the world didn’t have room for that anymore.

Hands shaking, they still pulled kitchen knives from their bags.

The motorboat roared across the water, the tattooed men shouting wildly. Behind them, the others paddled hard on their rafts to keep up.

They saw fish floating belly-up across the surface and bags on Nicole’s boat, packed full. Greed lit up every face.

About 30 feet out, the lead motorboat stopped. One of the men swung out a machete and shouted, full of swagger, “Leave the fish, the boat, and the dog! Do that, and we’ll let you live!”

There were two women and four men in Nicole’s group. Aside from the tall guy, the rest looked like easy

targets.

Nicole’s voice stayed steady. “If we give you everything, how are we supposed to leave?”

“That’s your problem,” he said with a grin. “Jump in and swim. If you don’t drown, maybe you’ll make it.”

Another one leered at her. “You’re pretty. Take care of us, and maybe we’ll let you stick around.”

Zeph’s expression darkened. Nicole didn’t react at all. “So we’re not negotiating, then?”

“Cut the crap,” the man snapped. “If you don’t want to die, hand it over. Otherwise, I’ll make sure you beg

me…”

He never finished. An arrow punched straight through his chest.

He dropped into the reservoir without another sound.

For a second, everyone froze.

Zeph stood there, crossbow raised, another arrow already nocked. The bamboo shaft gleamed sharp and

clean.

Nicole couldn’t help wondering just how many weapons he still had up his sleeve.

She didn’t hesitate. She grabbed the nail gun and fired several quick shots, not at the men, but at the

motorboat.

Air hissed out instantly. The boat started to deflate under the weight of the dozen people standing on it.

Panic broke out. “Damn it, they’ve got weapons!”

Zeph didn’t act often, but when he did, it was lethal. He loosed several shots in quick succession, each one striking dead center. 1

Screams rang out. The men who had been shouting threats moments ago turned and toppled into the dark, bottomless reservoir.

Survival was instinct. People thrashed in the water, some even lunging toward Nicole and the others, desperate to steal a chance at staying alive.

Two of them got lucky. They dodged the nail gun and the crossbow, managing to grab hold of a rope on

the motorboat.

They were just about to climb up when, in the next second, their hands were gone. They were cleanly severed and dropped into the water with a splash.

They froze for a split second, then let out bloodcurdling screams.

Facing Nicole, who swung a long blade without so much as a flicker of emotion, the three Goodmans

trembled in terror.

She killed them!
