Nicole opened the door and saw Jeremy and Hughie practicing with crossbows in the hallway.

Well… Zeph’s teaching wasn’t the problem. Their talent was.

Beatrice, on the other hand, had a natural feel for it, but her temper flared.

“What’s wrong with you two? I’ve shown you so many times already, and you still can’t hit anything. Even Cola’s aim is better than yours!”

Nicole almost laughed out loud.

It couldn’t be helped. Everyone had their strengths. Beatrice already had a strong physical foundation. Whether it was coordination, speed, or reflexes, she outclassed most people, so picking this up came naturally to her.

As for those two, one had always been frail, and the other not much better. Their athletic ability was below average to begin with. The fact that they had stuck with it this long was already impressive.

Zeph was cold and distant, while Beatrice was impatient. The two guys really had it rough.

“Let me try.”

She had wanted to help Hughie’s group for a while, but Zeph had been the one to teach her. Without his say-so, it didn’t feel right to pass it on.

They worked together, but that didn’t mean anyone was supposed to just hand over everything they knew. Zeph was just as guarded as she was. The only reason she had gotten closer to him was because of the exchange involving Poppy and Cola.

In a world like this, natural survivors were rare. Most people were just ordinary, like Jeremy and Hughie. The fact that they kept pushing forward already meant something.

Since teaming up on the 18th floor and with Cola around, Nicole wasn’t as anxious or on edge as she had been right after her rebirth.

Beatrice and the others were different. The fear and unease kept building, and it showed in their tempers.

Nicole stepped forward and patiently went over everything again, breaking down each movement in detail.

Strict teachers didn’t always produce the best students, but she had years of experience training people. She knew how to teach.

She slowed things down, eased the frustration, and built their confidence back up.

Jeremy and Hughie settled themselves. As they kept practicing, their movements grew steadier, their aim more precise.

Beatrice thanked Nicole. “I’ve been losing a lot of hair lately, and my temper’s getting worse. Every time I

snap, I feel guilty afterwards, but I just can’t control it.”

“Ask Jeremy later if there’s anything for anxiety,” Nicole suggested. “I remember we stocked some. Try to keep an eye on your mood, too.”

Beatrice blinked in surprise. “You think I’ve got anxiety?”

“It’s not just you. A lot of people do right now,” Nicole said, nodding. “I had it, too, at the beginning. Cola helped me get through it.”

“No wonder… I’ve felt off for a while. Even my cycle’s been irregular.”

Beatrice sighed. She used to have a quick temper, but she had always been upbeat. Not like now, drowning in negativity every day.

They were still talking when knocking came from downstairs.

They were familiar faces. Besides Gabrielle’s family, there was the family with the kid who’d had stomach pain before, and the former residents of 1703.
