Chapter 163

Nicole didn’t stop. She gripped her blade and walked straight toward Oliver.

His legs gave out beneath him. “Th-this is murder! It’s illegal!”

“Oh, so you do know what illegal means.” Nicole smiled faintly, her eyes cold. “You took Faye and the others out to trade for food, then worked with those collectors behind everyone’s back. That’s not illegal?”

“N-No, it’s a misunderstanding!”

“Really? Then how about we open your door and see exactly how much you’ve got stored inside?”

Oliver tried to argue, but Nicole had no patience left. She drove the knife into him.

A sharp scream tore out of his throat.

Nicole didn’t aim for his heart. The blade sank into his shoulder instead.

“Do you think you’ve got nine lives? You keep going after us like you won’t pay for it. What made you think we wouldn’t end you?”

She grabbed him by the collar and dragged him to the window, then shoved him out.

This wasn’t a flood anymore. The world was locked in a deep freeze. From the 16th floor, there was no surviving that fall.

“Ahhh!”

Oliver’s wife screamed as she rushed up from downstairs, panic written all over her face.

She pointed at Nicole and shouted, “Have you all lost your minds?! You think you can just kill someone? I’m calling the cops! You’re all animals!”

“Go ahead. Call them,” Nicole said calmly.

“Let them come take a look at how your husband’s been bending the rules and working with a violent gang. Acting all righteous now? Then don’t eat the food he got off other people’s misery,” she added, almost amused. “If you really didn’t want this to happen, you should’ve stopped him back then.”

She had no intention of leaving loose ends.

“Instead of crying here, you might want to keep an eye on the food at home. Every meal you eat means one less left.”

The woman’s face went pale. Around her, the survivors’ eyes sharpened, turning greedy. 1

They all knew it now. Oliver hadn’t just cheated them; everything in his home had been taken from them.

Not wanting to deal with the crowd any longer, Nicole turned and headed back.

From somewhere in the crowd, someone shouted, “You killed their people! What happens when they

come back for revenge? What are we supposed to do?”

Exactly. No one wanted to end up like the people in Buildings 15 and 16.

Instead of feeling grateful, they complained.

Nicole stopped and looked back, her gaze cutting across the crowd.

“Where’d you get that attitude, from Oliver or the collectors? Do you really think I’m the easier one to mess with?” Her eyes swept over them, cold and sharp. “Did the cold freeze your brain solid, too? Anyone

with a death wish, step up. I’ll make it quick.”

That shut them up.

She turned and headed upstairs.

Just as they reached the 18th floor, screams and furious shouting echoed up from below.

Nicole paused for a moment, then headed inside.

That was when she noticed Cola dragging a bag up the stairs, tail wagging.

Jeremy and Hughie weren’t any better. Each of them carried a sack of rice in one hand and a weapon in the other, grinning as if they had just hit the jackpot.
