The Apocalypse Survival Manual (Three Days Before Doomsday, I Stockpiled Billions) novel Chapter 179

Chapter 179

Zeph nodded. “Definitely.”

The Drakebane Guild had plenty of low-level members. Those guys wouldn’t be allowed anywhere near the boss’s birthday party. Only the higher ups got that privilege.

Which meant the firepower at Liora Estates would be reduced.

It was a smart move.

The line was long. It took two hours before it was their turn. After collecting the supplies, the two of them headed back to Crownview Residences.

They hadn’t gone far when Zeph suddenly tensed. He grabbed Nicole’s arm and quickly pulled her in another direction.

“It’s her! It’s them!” A sharp female voice rang out in the distance. “I’d recognize them anywhere!”

It sounded familiar, like she had heard it somewhere before.

Bang, bang, bang!

A burst of gunfire tore through the air.

Zeph pulled Nicole and ran. Behind them, more than a dozen men chased, guns raised. Bullets skimmed past them as they sprinted into an office building.

They ran straight for the stairs.

Nicole was fully geared. As she reached into her pocket, she pulled a gun from her storage space.

They kept climbing, searching for cover.

“Move! They’re upstairs!”

A group of men with tattoos rushed after them. “Luke said it. Bring him the heads of the people from the 18th floor as a birthday gift!”

Using the stairwell for cover, Zeph fired twice from above; both shots were clean headshots.

But the enemy had overwhelming firepower. They answered with a barrage.

In the exchange, Zeph took down five. Nicole wasn’t as precise, but she managed to injure two.

Fighting while retreating, Nicole pushed into an office with a solid-looking door.

Of course. Another executive office.

She locked the door behind them. Then they moved into the inner room and locked that door, too.

During the fight, there had been no time to feel afraid.

Now, her hands were slick with sweat.

Before they could deal with the Drakebane Guild, they were already being hunted. She didn’t know how Beatrice and the others were holding up.

If the 18th floor got attacked, Cola and Poppy wouldn’t stand a chance.

Her chest tightened.

As she wiped the sweat from her forehead, she noticed something off.

Zeph looked strained.

Her heart dropped. “You’re hit?”

“I’m fine. I’ve got body armor.”

Ammunition was limited. Every shot had to count.

Even without a direct wound, the impact from the bullets hitting the armor still carried force. It would take time to recover.

“Where?”

It was his shoulder. The arm holding the gun.

Nicole’s mind raced. He had shoved her earlier.

Was that when it happened?

If so…

Before she could think further, heavy kicks slammed against the outer door.

Zeph ignored it. He smashed the glass in the inner room, pulled out an escape rope, and secured it.

He said to her, “Go down from here. Get back to Crownview Residences.”

“What about you?”

“I’ve got armor, and I still have ammo. I can handle them.”

Nicole knew he didn’t have enough.

“Go!” His voice hardened. “I’ll hold them off. You get back and help Poppy and the others.”

“You’re going to take on all of them alone?”

“They came prepared. If we both stay, we’re dead.”
