Chapter 180
Zeph looked straight at Nicole. “I’ll try.”
But the attackers were set on taking their heads. An axe slammed down hard, splitting through the wooden door of the inner room.
That was it. No one was getting out today. No matter how skilled they were, they couldn’t walk away from this kind of firepower unscathed.
In that split second, Nicole grabbed Zeph’s hand and pulled him into her storage space. 2
The men burst in right after, firing wildly without even checking. The room was torn apart. Glass shattered everywhere.
The scene shifted.
Zeph froze, stunned by what he saw.
Nicole hadn’t wanted it to come to this, but there was no other choice. She couldn’t leave him behind to get torn apart by gunfire.
And that shot to his shoulder… It might’ve happened when he pulled her earlier.
No matter how careful she had been, her secret was exposed.
The only saving grace was that even inside the storage space, she stayed on guard.
The RV was parked in the second-floor living area. Food and supplies were stored in separate rooms, all locked. The first-floor hall was empty except for the floating glowing timer.
At the same time, Nicole kept one hand in her pocket, finger resting on the trigger.
If Zeph showed even a hint of greed, she wouldn’t hesitate.
After the initial shock, Zeph turned to her. “Where are we?”
Nicole rubbed the bridge of her nose. “Well… It’s my storage space.”
“Storage space?”
His brows drew together. Something like this shouldn’t even exist.
His gaze moved across the dark soil garden, the piles of furniture stacked in the corners, the cut timber and bamboo, the sprouting peanuts and corn, the rows of green vegetables, and the clusters of ripe red
grapes.
His pupils tightened again.
The silence stretched.
Nicole cleared her throat. “Want some grapes?”

Zeph looked away. “No, thanks.” 2
Whether he was just that composed or truly uninterested, she couldn’t tell. After the shock, there was nothing in his expression.
Nicole pulled her thoughts back. “How’s your injury?”
Zeph touched his shoulder. The fabric was punctured, and the bullet was lodged in the armor plate beneath. The impact had left his muscles and bones throbbing.
“I’m fine. Not fatal.”
“That happened when you pulled me, didn’t it?”
Zeph turned his head slightly. “No. Don’t overthink it.”
Nicole couldn’t read him this time. The air felt awkward.
She spoke again. “Do you think they’re gone outside?”
The window was shattered, and the rope had been thrown out. Even if they were suspicious, they would eventually leave after not finding anyone.
