Chapter 183
Trouble kept coming in waves. Even Beatrice was getting fed up. “Fine. Then we roll the dice and charge
in.”
Nicole looked at the group. “If they’ve been out this long and haven’t gone back, there might be another group coming. You guys stay and hold the 18th floor. Zeph and I will slip in and see if there’s a chance to
make a move.”
Beatrice frowned. “No. Just the two of you is too risky.”
Zeph spoke up. “Too many people, and we’re more likely to get exposed.”
Nicole agreed. Hughie’s group didn’t have body armor. Beatrice could fight, but shooting wasn’t her strength. Jeremy and Hughie weren’t in the best shape. If they got caught, it would only make things
worse.
If it was just her and Zeph, they could still retreat into the storage space if things went bad.
More people meant more variables. Her secret had already been exposed once. She couldn’t risk that
happening again.
If she had a choice, she didn’t want to ever point a weapon at them.
Jeremy knew he was being left out. He pulled out his gun. “I won’t slow you down, but take this.”
Nicole shook her head. She had just picked up plenty of weapons and ammo and stored them in her
storage space.
“No need. We grabbed some off them earlier. You keep yours for defense.”
There was no time to waste. Whether it worked or not, they had to take the gamble.
Beatrice suddenly pulled Nicole into a hug. “You’d better come back in one piece!”
Jeremy and Hughie stepped in as well. “Not even a scratch, got it?”
“I’ll try.”
Nicole didn’t like the tone. It felt like she was walking into her own funeral.
But it really was a life or death gamble.
On the way downstairs, she handed two guns to Zeph and grabbed a handful of bullets.
The weapons were crudely made; they weren’t the best to handle, but it was better than nothing.
Zeph took them and handed her two smoke grenades in return. The shells looked like modified soda cans. It was clearly homemade. He really could make anything.
Nicole couldn’t help thinking again. Surviving out here was no easy thing.

They left the building and headed toward Liora Estates.
No one wanted to die. Nicole just hoped their earlier scouting was right and that they could take advantage of the situation.
Alas, reality didn’t always cooperate.
Liora Estates looked calm.
Nicole glanced at Zeph, confused.
It didn’t make sense. This should have been the peak of the birthday party.
If they didn’t move while the enemy was distracted, they might not get another chance.
On the way over, Nicole had overheard survivors complaining. The supply truck had broken down, delaying distribution. People had lined up early and still hadn’t gotten anything.
Relief supplies were distributed by district. The complaints were about their own area.
Delaying things could buy time, but if it dragged on too long, people would get suspicious.
Had something gone wrong?
