People could take a break. The dog couldn’t. He needed the training.

Nicole agreed without hesitation.

“Give me a minute.” She turned to Cola. “Sorry, buddy. I love you, but you’re going out there. Do it for me.”

So in the brutal cold, the dog was sent outside for high-intensity training.

Cola stood there, confused. What happened to sticking together forever?

Nicole stayed under her blankets, warm and comfortable, while her mind worked inside the storage space, turning soil with a hoe.

She planted peanuts and corn, and set aside about 1,000 square feet to try growing wheat.

She hadn’t expected the space to expand like this, so she had mostly stocked vegetable seeds. The wheat she used now was a drought-resistant, high-yield variety. Unlike hybrid rice, wheat could be replanted from its own seeds. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have dared to use it so freely. Seeds only got scarcer the more you used them.

As for hybrid rice, she wouldn’t touch it at all.

Even with wheat, she started small. It was better to confirm she could produce seeds before expanding.

It took her three days to prepare the soil, form rows, dig holes, and plant everything.

Nicole didn’t really know how to farm, but she had downloaded plenty of guides. Whenever she ran into something she didn’t understand, she just looked it up.

After that, she rested for a few more days. Once she got tired of reading medical books and watching training videos, she curled a finger at Cola. “Come here.”

Cola ran over right away and lay down beside her, letting her pet him.

Ash and Snowy occasionally hopped over, too, trying to get attention. The two had clearly changed. They were bolder now, and sometimes even picked fights with Cola.
