The Apocalypse Survival Manual (Three Days Before Doomsday, I Stockpiled Billions) novel Chapter 199

Chapter 199

Someone came running straight at Nicole’s group, voice shaking with excitement.

“Buster, there you are!”

Nicole looked up. A girl in a gray puffer coat and a bright red scarf was rushing toward them.

She was bundled up, but her face and the way she moved made her look about the same age as Nicole. Behind her followed seven or eight men, along with a few women wrapped just as tightly.

Nicole’s chest tightened. They weren’t here by accident, they were here for Cola.

The girl didn’t slow down. She reached out as if to grab Cola, but Beatrice stepped in first and shoved her back. “What do you think you’re doing?”

The girl wasn’t ready for it. She stumbled and fell hard.

The men behind her reacted instantly, pulling out weapons and stepping forward, faces turning hostile.” Why did you touch her?”

“It was just a shove.” Beatrice stood her ground. “Come near our dog again and see what happens.”

“Stop fighting.” The girl scrambled up, brushing herself off, then looked at Beatrice. “That’s my dog.”

Jeremy let out a short laugh. “Your dog? What, is your name written on him somewhere? How do you prove that?”

She ignored him completely. Instead, she crouched down, her voice soft as she called out, “Buster. It’s me, remember?”

Cola’s lips pulled back. He edged closer to Nicole.

“Buster, don’t you remember me?” Her voice started to shake. “I raised you when you were just a puppy. How could you forget me?”

“Enough.” Beatrice’s tone turned cold. “His name is Cola, not Buster. Keep this up, and we won’t be nice

about it.”

This wasn’t the first time someone had tried to claim him.

“I’m not lying! He went missing. I even put up notices looking for him.” The girl stood her ground. “If you don’t believe me, watch. When I call him, he reacts.”

Beatrice had seen it. She wasn’t blind. But when they found Cola, he had been wandering. To put it plainly, someone had abandoned him.

Who he belonged to before didn’t matter. Nicole had taken him in. Now, he was theirs. He was part of the 18th floor.

With both sides refusing to back down, the tension rose fast.

The moment she heard someone was trying to take Cola, Poppy rushed over and threw her arms around him, clinging tight. “Cola’s ours!”

Nicole stayed quiet, watching the group in front of her.

From Cola’s reaction alone, she already knew. This girl had been his owner before.

Cola held grudges, but he hadn’t reacted to her the way he had with Edward. That meant something.

There had been a bond once.

Cola remembered that, but did she? If she really cared, she could’ve found someone to take him in. Why send him to an illegal slaughterhouse?

If he hadn’t escaped, he would’ve ended up as food.

And now here she was, trying to take him back?
