Chapter 295
Weasel crossed out several items on the list immediately. “The rest I can get, but it’ll take time.”
“How long?” Nicole asked.
“About five days.” He paused before adding shamelessly, “The deep freeze and this extreme heat, nothing’s easy to find anymore. Prices are insane right now. At least 1,000 pounds of potatoes.”
Nicole almost laughed in his face.
The two of them haggled back and forth for ages. By the time they finished, Nicole was sweaty, irritated, and thoroughly over it.
They finally settled on 500 pounds of potatoes.
Once they agreed on a meeting spot, Nicole jumped on the mountain bike she had gotten from Victor
and hurried home before the heat could cook her alive.
That night, Zeph contacted her over the radio and told her to come downstairs to the parking garage.
The armored Hummer was finally fixed.
After he reinstalled the stripped components and replaced several damaged parts with pieces salvaged from the luxury car club, the vehicle looked whole again.
Honestly, Nicole had always wanted one of these.
Then she remembered the absurd off-road monsters sitting inside her storage space and managed to calm herself down, though excitement still buzzed in her chest.
Zeph really was something else. The guy could fight, kill, survive, and even repair cars… What exactly
could he not do?
Nicole looked at him with open curiosity. “What else do you know how to do?”
The parking garage was pitch-black. Instead of answering, Zeph switched off the flashlight completely and pulled her into his arms.
“You guess.”
With darkness swallowing everything around them, Nicole let him hold her.
She could smell sweat and engine grease clinging to him after days spent working underground, but strangely enough, it didn’t bother her anymore. If anything, it grounded her and made everything feel
more real.
Nicole didn’t bother guessing. She would rather wait and find out for herself. 1
Since the garage was empty and dark, she took the chance to quietly store the Hummer away. 1

The next morning, Hughie walked into the garage, stopped cold, and stared at the empty spot in confusion.
“Zeph… Where’s your truck?”
“Too many people have been watching lately. I didn’t want someone damaging it out of jealousy, so l moved it somewhere safer,” Zeph answered calmly.
“Man, you really think things through.”
Another day began, and work continued.
Over the next several days, Zeph worked with his two apprentices and managed to piece together two off -road vehicles from salvaged parts. Some parts came from stripped vehicles, while others Nicole “traded
for outside.”
The costs were deducted from Jeremy’s group’s medicine supply.
Spending every day down in the parking garage was bound to attract attention.
Still, Zeph was no amateur. He had noticed people watching from the shadows long ago, so he quietly signaled Jeremy and Hughie.
Jeremy immediately caught on and raised his voice on purpose. “What? The engine still doesn’t work? You’ve got to keep looking?”
Hughie picked it up smoothly. “Another two weeks? Seriously?”
The act sounded convincing because technically, it wasn’t entirely fake.
A few critical components had intentionally been left uninstalled. They could always add them on the day they actually left.
Late that night, Zeph drove the Hummer and took Nicole to the exchange point to pick up the supplies.
It was only the second time Nicole had ridden in his vehicle. The first time had been during the typhoon, when he gave her a ride by chance.
Now somehow, against all odds, they had become a couple.
Thinking about it still felt surreal.
Zeph kept his eyes on the road. “What are you smiling about?”
Nicole quietly watched the night outside the window. The whole thing still felt dreamlike. “Nothing.”
At the secluded exchange site, Weasel practically drooled when he saw the Hummer.
Anybody who could still get their hands on a working vehicle and afford to keep it running these days. was definitely not ordinary.
Nicole was a serious player.

Weasel had always known she wasn’t someone to underestimate. The problem was that she bargained like a shark and never let anybody walk away with an extra dime.
The exchange itself went smoothly. Goods for potatoes.
After driving the vehicle to a deserted corner, Nicole quietly stored the supplies away under the cover of darkness. The two of them walked back to the complex hand in hand under the beam of a flashlight.
