Chapter 307
Weasel and the others came fully prepared for the ice delivery.
Afraid it would melt on the way back, they even brought stacks of foam coolers and arranged to pick everything up at 5 a.m. sharp.
The meeting spot wasn’t far, the same place where they had sold seawater before.
Nicole deliberately drove in from a different direction.
Sven showed up personally again, carrying the raw emerald they had promised as payment.
The stone was about the size of a basketball, with one edge already cut open. Under the flashlight, the exposed crystal caught the light with a deep, glassy shine.
Rich green veins ran through the stone, vivid and almost unreal. The exposed section looked startlingly clear and clean for something still in its raw natural state.
Nicole had never seen anything this high-end before. If not for the disasters, she probably never would’ve even had the chance to see something like this up close, let alone hold it in her hands.
Even though she barely understood gemstones, she still put on a thoughtful expression and examined it carefully before stuffing it into her oversized backpack.
The moment the stone entered the storage space, Nicole immediately checked inside with her consciousness. Her eyes nearly popped out of her head.
The expansion was enormous, so massive that she couldn’t even estimate the exact increase right away.
Nicole instantly looked back at Sven. “Can you get more stones like this?”
Sven smiled.
“There’s definitely more out there. Rich people are still sitting on plenty of stuff like this. And with water in your hands, do you really think you can’t trade for good inventory? When you get back from Grayport, we’ll keep working together. At that point, if you asked me for the moon, I’d probably start figuring out
how to reach it.”
Nicole was practically glowing with excitement. “Thanks for taking care of us these past few weeks. We’ll see you again.”
Sven genuinely liked doing business with them, too. They were capable and reliable. The last couple of times, they had even warned him when people were tailing his crew.
Besides, thanks to the water Nicole supplied, Sven had recently started making connections with more upper-class survivors. His business network was growing wider by the day.
After returning home and locking the door, Nicole pulled Zeph into the storage space.
Zeph walked around once before saying, “Looks like it expanded by another ten thousand square feet or
1/3
so.”
+15 Bonus
With four floors at roughly 40 feet tall, that meant the space had gained around 400 thousand cubic feet.
“Not just that.” Nicole pointed upward.
Zeph looked toward the ceiling. After a long pause, his eyes narrowed slightly. “The ceiling got higher.”
The two of them grabbed a tape measure. The original ten-foot ceilings on the first floor had increased to nearly eleven feet now.
Only the first floor changed. The others stayed exactly the same.
This storage space really was getting stranger and stranger.
No matter how they looked at it, today’s deal had been insanely worth it. The increase from that single gemstone was bigger than everything they had accumulated over the past several weeks combined.
This trip to Grayport definitely needed to pay off big.
As the heat and drought dragged on, more and more survivors started fleeing Westbridge.
Most couldn’t afford entry into secured compounds or shelters, so they headed for the coast instead.
Saltwater was still water. As long as there was water, people still had hope.
Which meant stockpiling supplies near the coast had to happen early. Otherwise, all the good inventory would get picked clean.
It wasn’t just survivors competing for resources. The city authorities were desperate, too.
Every coastal city would eventually start fighting over supplies.
Nicole thought for a moment. “How about we leave tomorrow?”
Zeph had no objections, but another issue came up immediately.
“What about the rabbits?”
That really was a problem.
