Chapter 333
“Three days ago, a family came looking for a place. We were full, so they ended up renting in the fishing village. That same night, they were robbed and stabbed.
“I heard their eight-year-old boy was killed, and even the body was taken.
“It’s chaos out there now. If you don’t renew, someone else will take the villa right away.”
His tone was blunt, but he wasn’t wrong.
Nicole had been by the coast for a month. Even without going out much, she could feel the crowd growing.
Everywhere was packed. People fought over the smallest things, tearing into each other over supplies.
The villa district was a good place to stay, but Nicole still hadn’t decided. She wanted to see how Seaborn Base handled things first. If they took the medicine and let it go, then renewing made sense.
After all, who would leave a seaside villa just to go back to a cramped apartment in Westbridge?
Nicole was about to say she would think it over when she noticed the light shift. The sun didn’t feel as harsh.
The disasters had made her instincts sharp.
She looked up toward the horizon, and her eyes tightened. She quickly nudged Zeph.
The sky above them was still bright, the sun high and blazing. But far out at sea, dark clouds had begun to gather.
White clouds were moving at a visible speed, darkening as they went, folding into a shape that looked like a
mushroom.
The air grew hotter. There was a faint scorched smell in the wind.
Zeph stared at it, his expression changing. “This isn’t good.”
He slammed the gas. The battered car skidded, then shot up the hill.
Ronnie stood there in the exhaust, silent.
The car raced along the winding road. Zeph’s face was tense. “The weather’s turning.”
She felt it, too.
In normal conditions, this might not mean much. But in this world, even a small shift could trigger something catastrophic.
As they took a few sharp turns, the cloud at the edge of the sea had already grown larger.
From their vantage point, Nicole could see it clearly.
Yet, the people in the fishing village and along the beach below seemed unaware. Maybe some had noticed but didn’t think much of it. Some might even be hoping for rain to break the heat.
Zeph kept driving. A road that usually took over ten minutes now took only a few before they reached the top.
The car slid to a stop.
Nicole jumped out. “Poppy, Cola, pack everything!”

By the time she reached the roof, the dark cloud had doubled in size, and the sunlight over the coast had dimmed.
There was no time to think. She started pulling down the solar panels, while Zeph cut the power and moved quickly to dismantle the electric fence.
