Chapter 369
Poppy didn’t want Zeph and Nicole to go, but in the end, she nodded.
“I’ll take care of myself.”
Nicole packed their things while Zeph handed Poppy a suppressed handgun, signaling for her to hide t
somewhere safe.
She hid it well enough that no one would ever find it.
They stayed with her for a while. Around midnight, the two of them and Cola got ready to leave.
Cola lingered, rubbing against Poppy again and again before finally stepping back. They left her with enough food, Zeph reminded her to lock the door before turning to go.
Nicole found Anthony.
“You know what Zeph and I are like. We’re all on the same side now. Leaving Poppy here should be more than enough to show we’re serious. If we come back and anything’s happened to her, you know exactly what that means.”
Anthony raised a hand. “Relax. I’ll treat her like my own kid. If anyone touches her, I’ll take their head off myself.”
Zeph started the engine, but before pulling away, he glanced up at the window. The room was dark, but he knew Poppy was standing there.
He took a slow breath and drove off.
The Hummer disappeared into the night as they left Ironvale Base.
The meeting point was about 18 miles away, set between two hills, one high, one low, with open ground in between. Just looking at the terrain, it was obvious Drakehold Base had their own plans.
If they were right, Drakehold wanted Felix dead just as much, so they could swallow Ironvale whole.
Which meant a sniper shot was unavoidable.
Zeph’s job was simple: take them out before their ambush even had a chance to happen.
The meeting was set for 9 a.m. Getting there overnight gave them more than enough time.
From what they knew of Drakehold’s attitude toward Felix, there was no way they would prepare this carefully ahead of time.
They killed the headlights when they arrived.
After getting out, they stayed in the dark for 15 minutes. Once both Zeph and Cola confirmed the area was clear, Nicole stored the vehicle in the storage space.
They moved quietly to a choke point Drakehold would have to pass, picking a concealed position with a clear view.
With Cola on watch, Nicole leaned against Zeph’s shoulder and closed her eyes. She drifted off, then felt a light nudge.
“Someone’s coming,” Zeph said quietly.
Headlights flickered in the distance.

Nicole checked her watch. It was 4:10 a.m.
Through the night vision scope, there was no sign of anyone trailing behind.
Zeph and Cola moved immediately, aiming to catch them off guard.
Nicole was completely ignored, as if she wasn’t even there.
The target had come in under cover of darkness, trying to get an early start. He barely had time to open the car door before a cold barrel pressed against the back of his head.
Damn it.
He was doubting his life choices.
He had always thought he was one of the best in Drakehold. This job was supposed to be easy. Instead, it was over before it even started.
This was beyond humiliating.
His sniper pack was ripped off his back without hesitation.
He slowly raised his hands and turned around, only to see the one who took it was…a woman.
