Chapter 377
With so many people praising him, Cola started to get a little carried away and went straight for the liquor.
It hit hard, sharp and burning like fire.
Cola regretted it instantly. He panted with his mouth wide open, pawing frantically at his nose before losing his footing and tumbling to the ground.
The tattooed men all turned to look at him and burst out laughing.
Poppy’s face tightened with anger as she knocked the cup aside. “You’re all mean! I’m not playing with you. Cola, let’s go.”
Embarrassed, Cola bared his teeth at them, but it only made them laugh harder.
At exactly 8 p.m., Felix finally showed up, dressed in an expensive casual outfit, his hair slicked back and shining under the lights.
He took the stage and launched into a speech that dragged on for more than half an hour, talking about how Drakehold Base had oppressed them, how Ironvale Base had fought back under his leadership, and how they had wiped out their enemy and taken their resources.
He didn’t mention Zeph once. The message was clear.
While he talked, dishes were brought out one after another.
It was a full spread of cured meats, seafood, vegetables, and more.
The beef stew and whole roasted lamb were held back, to be served only after the boss sat down. Everything else was fair game.
Other tables started eating, but Zeph and Nicole were seated at the main table, and everyone waited for Felix.
After more than 40 minutes of talking and repeated applause, Felix finally stepped down.
“Come on, we’re all family here. Don’t hold back. Eat and drink!”
As soon as he sat, the beef stew and roasted lamb were brought out. Women in revealing outfits came around pouring drinks.
Felix raised his glass.
“Ironvale Base wouldn’t be where it is today without all of you, especially Zeph. This one’s for you.”
The other leaders quickly followed, offering their own praise.
Nicole almost laughed. Now he chose to speak, but he hadn’t said a word about Zeph up there.
Felix drained his glass, his calculating eyes watching Zeph and Nicole over the rim. When he saw Nicole finish her drink, a faint smile touched his lips.
The man was capable and steady, the woman sharp with a wild edge, and Poppy innocent and sweet.
He liked them. Killing them outright would be a waste. Better to lock them up first and kill them after he had his way with them.
As for the dog, once the owners were his, it would belong to him, too.

Zeph wasn’t used to cocktails. After a sip, he choked and bent forward, coughing.
Nicole stood and patted his back. “If you can’t handle it, don’t force it. You’re embarrassing yourself.”
The moment she leaned over and blocked their line of sight, she slipped the drink from her glass into the storage space and replaced it with something she had prepared.
She hadn’t actually swallowed anything, either. It looked like she did, but everything went straight into the storage space.
“Come on, eat,” Felix urged. “Try the lamb and the beef. It’s all fresh.”
The other leaders chimed in. “Boss, we haven’t had fresh meat in two years! If it weren’t for you, we’d never get this.”
