The Apocalypse Survival Manual (Three Days Before Doomsday, I Stockpiled Billions) novel Chapter 464

Chapter 464

“Alternative medicine research?” Nicole looked surprised. “Then you must know a lot about medicinal herbs,”

Mitchell shook his head. “Some. More than most people.”

Zeph had spent the past few months buried in books on medicinal herbs. If he brought these people over, he had probably already tested them.

Even so, Nicole wasn’t about to trust them blindly. “We’re here looking for medicine, too. A lifesaving herb for some wealthy clients. I think it’s called white ridgeflower. Do you know what it does?”

It wasn’t a common plant. Anyone who didn’t truly understand medicinal herbs wouldn’t be able to answer.

“White ridgeflower, also known as ridgeking. The root is mainly used for bruises, venereal disease, arthritis, tuberculosis, whooping cough…”

Mitchell didn’t just list its effects. He explained how it was used, where it grew, and what kind of environment it preferred.

Nicole listened for a while and could tell he knew his field.

The group had come out here on pure determination, with no real way to defend themselves. Now that the danger had passed, the thought left them cold.

“Since you’re looking for medicine, too, why don’t we team up?”

Nicole considered it. “Sure. We split whatever we find down the middle?”

They had guns, and they had even brought a child and a dog with them. From their gear to their condition, they clearly had some ability, so Mitchell agreed without hesitation.

“Works for me.”

That settled it.

They avoided the tourist trail and searched along the base of the mountain instead, focusing on damp areas.

Nicole and Zeph fell in at the back. Zeph lowered his voice.

“Mitchell was the professor’s student. He went to Mount Cedar with him back then.”

No wonder Zeph, cautious as he was, had brought them over without hesitation.

Nicole was surprised. What were the odds? If they were lucky, they might even find the other herb here and save themselves another trip.

To be fair, these people didn’t have much survival experience, but they really did know medicinal herbs. To them, everything had medicinal value. This plant, that vine, even a random stone underfoot. In their hands, almost anything could become a remedy.

Mitchell and the others were grateful to Zeph for saving them. Once they realized he didn’t know much about herbs, they made a point of explaining things whenever they found a young plant.

“This is rockfern. It’s especially useful for prostatitis…”

Zeph, who was perfectly healthy, just stared at him.

Poppy and Cola stayed alert, watching every direction with sharp eyes and ears.

Mitchell’s group was in high spirits. They dug up the young plants along with the surrounding soil to improve their chances of survival.

“This trip was worth it. If we can bring these back and grow them, we’ve got a chance.”

“Exactly. Modern medicine is gone. This is what we have left. If we can find more, at least some of that knowledge can be preserved.”

“Plants are tough. As long as things don’t get worse, they’ll come back.”

Nicole thought to herself that the worst disasters were still ahead.

Even so, she didn’t forget why she had come. She set that thought aside and focused on searching for wyrmleaf.

The base of the mountain was relatively damp, which made it easier for plants to grow. After several hours of searching together, they found dozens of different varieties.
