Chapter 505

The yard was packed with pets, including corgis, papillons, Persian cats, British Shorthairs, and even an alpaca.

Cola looked around as though he had entered an entirely new world. Ever since his transformation, his instincts had become harder to control.

But a single stroke from Zeph was enough to calm him down. Cola immediately slipped into working-dog mode, quiet and disciplined. He held his head high and strutted forward with proud, confident steps.

The party was already in full swing, and the crowd erupted into excited screams when Marcus arrived. No one noticed the alpaca wandering out of the yard.

As Nicole walked past, something suddenly hit her in the face.

It was warm and wet.

The moment she realized what it was, her entire body went rigid. A string of furious, almost puppy-like growls erupted beside her.

Cola had already knocked the alpaca to the ground and clamped his jaws around its leg, thrashing it back and forth.

“Cola,” Zeph snapped.

Cola ignored him and refused to let go. Blood quickly began seeping from the wound.

Nicole hurried over. “Cola!”

Only then did he let go, but he was still furious. He lifted his leg and peed all over the alpaca’s head and face.

The alpaca’s shrieks brought the party to an abrupt halt. A group of young men and women rushed outside..

They gasped and covered their mouths. “Oh my god!”

A young woman charged forward and swung her purse at Cola. “Mimi!”

Cola dodged it, bared his teeth at her, then stared pointedly at her leg.

Nicole stopped him again. “Cola, come back.”

Only then did Cola return to her side, though he remained visibly on guard.

The young woman immediately turned on Nicole.

“What the hell is wrong with you? You let your dog run around without a leash, and now he attacked my Mimi! Mimi is a rare imported breed. You couldn’t afford an animal like her in your wildest dreams. She’s worth more than everything your family owns!”

Her lip curled as she looked Nicole up and down, taking in her plain workout clothes.

“If anything happens to her, your entire family could work themselves to death and still never pay me back!”

Distraught at the sight of her bleeding pet, she stormed over and swung at Nicole.

“Your dog attacked Mimi, and now you’re going to pay for every bit of it!”

Zeph reached out to stop her, but Nicole moved first. Before the woman’s hand could touch her, Nicole slapped her hard across the face.

Caught completely off guard, the woman cried out as she hit the ground.

“First, my dog was on a leash. If you missed that, you’re blind. Second, your alpaca spat in my face before my dog ever touched her.”

Nicole looked down at her coldly.

“If she’s really that valuable, maybe you should’ve kept her under control instead of letting her roam around spitting on people. You may think my life is worthless, but it’s still worth more than yours.”

Alpacas usually spat when they felt threatened.

Cola had acted on instinct to protect Nicole, though he had clearly gone too far.

Neither side was completely innocent. They could have heard each other out and settled the matter calmly. Nicole would even have been willing to pay the vet bill.

But the woman had come charging over, started insulting her without even asking what had happened, and then tried to hit her.

Since the woman was so eager to start a fight, Nicole saw no reason to hold back.

They were three years into the apocalypse, yet this woman still acted like money and status made her better than everyone else. Who did she think was going to tolerate that anymore?

The woman scrambled to her feet and continued shouting.
