Nicole’s momentary hesitation gave the wealthy partygoers time to react. As soon as they realized one of their friends was being attacked, they rushed forward.

“Why did you hit her?”

Someone hurried over to help the woman up. “Camila, are you okay?”

The moment Camila Clark got a good look at Nicole, she froze.

Several people in the neighborhood had mentioned that another woman living there looked a lot like her, but Camila had never taken them seriously. Before the apocalypse, cosmetic surgery had been so common, especially among social media influencers, that half of them had seemed to have the same face.

She had assumed everyone was exaggerating, but apparently, they weren’t.

The two women were not identical, but the resemblance was impossible to miss. Nicole was taller, and her features were colder and more striking.

Ignoring the accusing looks around her, Nicole said flatly, “Are you blind? She tried to hit me first.”

“She didn’t mean it. You hit her way too hard. And your dog seriously injured her alpaca.”

“So I was supposed to stand there and let it spit in my face?” Nicole snapped.

“Mimi didn’t do it on purpose,” Camila said. “That’s just what alpacas do.”

Nicole let out a cold laugh. “After three years of surviving the apocalypse, violence comes pretty naturally to me, too. Does that mean I can kill you and claim I couldn’t help it?”

Camila refused to back down. “That’s completely different! Besides, did anyone actually see Mimi spit on you? Alpacas don’t spit at people for no reason. They only do it when they feel threatened, so you must have done something to provoke her.”

The others immediately joined in.

“Exactly. Call the police. She assaulted someone, too.”

“Have her arrested!”

Nicole was so angry that she laughed. “Fine. Call them. I’ll wait.”

“Security! Over here!”

Someone spotted the neighborhood patrol and waved them over. Then she pointed at Nicole.

“She attacked someone on purpose. Arrest her and take her to the police station!”

The patrol approached to find the scene in complete chaos, with the crowd clearly divided into two sides.

Everyone involved lived in the neighborhood, and the guards couldn’t afford to make enemies of either group. The security captain, Kyle, quickly considered his options.

“This is a dispute between residents,” he said. “Please try to settle it peacefully. If you can’t reach an agreement, we’ll call the police.”

He knew why the previous security team had been fired. Ethan was part of his patrol, and he had already heard a

few things about the people in Villa 50.

Besides, the Robinsons had hired them. Until the Robinsons gave a direct order, remaining neutral was the safest choice.

When the guards refused to take sides, someone immediately snapped, “What is that supposed to mean? We pay all those HOA dues, and this is how you treat us?”

“Everyone, calm down. Let’s sit down and talk this out…”

Kyle was interrupted when one of the wealthy young men stepped forward and slapped him across the face.

“Talk it out? Please! You people only know how to bully anyone weaker than you and grovel in front of anyone stronger. A guard dog would be more useful.”

They didn’t dare touch the people from Villa 50, but slapping a security guard was another matter. These men worked for food. A slap was nothing. Even if someone humiliated them further, they would probably grit their teeth and take it rather than risk losing the job.
