The Apocalypse Survival Manual (Three Days Before Doomsday, I Stockpiled Billions) novel Chapter 51

Chapter 51

If Nicole wanted good wood, she wouldn’t find it in malls or office buildings. Plus, the museums were already underwater.

However, there was one place. Maybe it was worth trying their luck there.

Westbridge was one of the largest furniture manufacturing hubs in the world. In Fairfield, there was a massive international furniture convention center, a major landmark that hosted a global expo every year.

This year was the 30th anniversary. The event was bigger than ever, with ads everywhere months in advance.

Nicole thought back carefully.

The expo had been scheduled to start three days before the typhoon hit. It was supposed to run for two weeks.

Which meant it hadn’t ended.

Furniture from all over the world gathered in one place. How grand would that be?

She didn’t care much about most of it. Modern furniture rarely used solid wood.

Traditional pieces, however, were different.

Nicole remembered one of the ads. A major brand had built a full bedroom set out of thousand-year-old rosewood. The bed alone had a starting price in the millions.

In recent years, there had been a surge in interest in traditional styles.

To draw attention, the convention center had even borrowed a rare piece of ebony as a centerpiece.

Not just that. There were all kinds of valuable hardwoods: rosewood, sandalwood, and redwood. All showcased to promote craftsmanship.

Nicole needed to go, and she needed to go now.

The convention center was in Fairfield, about 25 miles from the city. The waterways would be complicated, but it was worth the gamble.

Beatrice and the others had gone out to gather building materials, so Nicole knocked on Zeph’s door. “I’m heading out for a bit.”

Zeph nodded. “Be careful.”

She slung a bag with a portable motorboat over her shoulder and headed downstairs.

Halfway down, on the 17th floor, Nicole ran into Mary. Faye from unit 1202 was with her.

Mary’s eyes were red, tears already forming. “Nicole, Ken got hurt! You’re the only one who can help him. Please, save him.”

Nicole didn’t even slow down. She treated Mary as if she weren’t there and kept walking.

Mary grabbed her arm. “We went to the same school. You can’t just let him die!”

Her voice was loud and shaky. Doors on the 17th floor started opening.

Nicole pulled out her blade and swung.

Mary screamed and stumbled back. Her long black hair was sliced clean in half, strands falling to the ground.

Before she could react, Nicole kicked her hard, sending her crashing to the floor. She lay there, stunned, eyes wide, tears forgotten.

Nicole didn’t let up and stepped on her chest.

“If you’re so eager to die, keep getting in my way,” Nicole said coldly. “I’ll make sure you get what you’re asking for.”

She pressed down harder, her gaze empty and merciless.

Mary’s face went pale. She could barely breathe, feeling as if her ribs were about to crack.
