Chapter 537
“I need you to help me find Valerie,” Jason said.
Marcus stared at him. “Can you please get a grip? She already had one broken leg, probably broke the other jumping from the second floor, and then got swept away by a typhoon. The chances that she’s still alive…”
Jason refused to accept it. “No. I believe she’s still alive.”
“Fine. Give me the car first.”
Jason was clearly beyond saving, so Marcus decided to get the car out of him before anything else
This Valerie woman must’ve had the worst luck in the world to cross paths with Jason.
Hell, Marcus had already given up looking for his own perfectly healthy girlfriend. There was no way he was, wasting his time searching for Jason’s crippled prisoner. She was probably long dead by now.
Jason nodded. “You can have the car, but I’m curious. Who had the nerve to reduce your Maybach to a pile of scrap?
Now that was a fun question.
Marcus slowly turned around with an especially obnoxious grin. “There. She’s the one who did it.”
Jason turned to look, and the corner of his mouth twitched.
Nicole, the supposedly reckless woman in question, gave them a smile that didn’t reach her eyes. Her voice was unusually sweet.
“Well, hello, gentlemen.”
Jason turned back around without a word, his expression cold and distant.
Marcus, however, immediately brightened when Nicole smiled at him, looking every bit like a spoiled rich kid.
“I’m really sorry for hitting your car last time. The more I think about it, the worse I feel. Why don’t you let me make it up to you?”
Nicole was genuinely taken aback. “I totaled your car. I’d say that makes us even.”
“No, it doesn’t. My family called the police afterward and scared both of you, so I still owe you. Let me take you out to dinner.”
“No. Just stay away from us from now on.”
“I still need to make it up to you. If you don’t wanna go out, I can come over for dinner instead.”
Nicole stared at him. “Stay away from me. Got it?”
Marcus looked hurt. “Just give me one chance to make it up to you. Once we’re even, I promise I’ll stay far away from you.”
Jason sat stiffly in his seat, feeling exasperated. There was seriously something wrong with Marcus’s brain.
By the time the homeowners’ meeting ended, the temperature had dropped even further. Nicole quickly got up to leave.
Worried she might be cold, Zeph took her hand and slipped it into his coat pocket.

Jason asked Marcus bluntly, “Are you interested in her?”
Marcus was speechless.
There had to be something wrong with Jason’s brain, too. What on earth made him think he was interested in Nicole?
Well, he was interested, just not romantically.
They were both dangerous lunatics. The only reason nothing had happened during the meeting was that too many people were around. Anywhere outside the neighborhood, Nicole probably would’ve blown both their heads off.
Nicole had barely taken a few steps when she sensed someone watching her.
It was Irene from Villa 39. This wasn’t the first time Nicole had caught her staring that evening. 1
Nicole pretended not to notice. She pulled her coat tighter, linked her arm through Zeph’s, and hurried home. It was freezing.
The moment they opened the door, Poppy and Cola rushed over to greet them. The heater was running in the upstairs living room, making it warm and cozy.
Nicole was a little hungry, so she took out some late-night snacks and beer.
