Nicole pried open the maintenance supply storage and finally found diesel inside one of the rooms.

Each drum held about 42 gallons, and there were 30 of them. That came out to roughly 1,260 gallons total, around four and a half tons.

With an international expo going on and a once-in-a-century typhoon hitting at the same time, there was no way they would only stock this much for emergencies.

So she kept going.

Anywhere she could break into, she did. Sure enough, she uncovered two more storage rooms, both packed with diesel. Altogether, it added up to about 12 tons.

Her motorboat and RV both ran on diesel. This would last her a long time.

Excitement hit, and she swept every last drum into the storage space.

The storage space already had several solar battery units, but why choose? She wanted it all.

She grabbed her tools and carefully dismantled the generators, trying to keep them intact. Then she packed them away along with the tools and spare parts from the maintenance department.

The seventh floor and below were filled with modern furniture. Nicole kept moving, collecting as she went.

Truth was, she liked modern pieces more. Designers actually thought about small apartments, so a lot of it folded, stacked, or saved space.

With an extra 42 thousand cubic feet to work with, she didn’t hold back.

Beds, memory foam mattresses, couches, wardrobes, TV stands, nightstands, dining tables, chairs, and recliners. She grabbed whatever she saw.

Whenever she got tired, she would sit down and check the storage space. Some of the wooden furniture she collected later only partially disappeared.

Figures. A lot of it was probably cheap stuff dressed up to look better than it was.

The storage space didn’t lie. It was like a built-in authenticity tester.

She headed up the spiral staircase. There was another living room up there, but nothing else had changed.

Nicole swept her way down to the fifth floor of the convention center. Anything she could use, she kept. Everything else, she chose based on durability. There was no point taking fragile, decorative junk. If she ever traded it later, flashy pieces would only draw attention.

She had spent too much time in the convention center.

When she checked her phone, it was already 3 p.m.

She drove the motorboat out, heading back. On the way, she spotted two newly built apartment blocks.

The memory of buildings collapsing, streets buried in rubble, flashed through her mind. After a brief pause, she turned the boat and headed there.

The buildings were finished, but still under interior construction. Materials had already been hauled up to different floors.

Nicole pulled back the tarps and found stacks of cement mix, drywall panels, bricks, glass doors and windows, floor tiles, waterproof coatings, and insulation rolls.

Each floor had different supplies depending on the stage of work.

Sand was easy to find anywhere. There was no need to waste space on it.

But the rest? Once production stopped, getting more wouldn’t be easy. Even if the government rebuilt later, it wouldn’t mean everything could be made again.

As she climbed, she kept loading materials into the storage space, piling everything into the dark soil garden.

Then, she noticed something.

Since the second floor had appeared in her storage space, the garden’s vertical space had increased, too. It now rose as high as the second level.

That meant its usable capacity had doubled, from about 30 thousand cubic feet to over 63 thousand cubic feet.

Good thing construction materials didn’t take up much room.

Nicole took everything she could find.

The garden didn’t preserve items, though, so she grabbed waterproof tarps to cover the cement, lime powder, and waterproof coatings.

Once she finished, something clicked in her mind.

The safes she had stashed earlier!
