The Apocalypse Survival Manual (Three Days Before Doomsday, I Stockpiled Billions) novel Chapter 573

Chapter 573

Irene finally realized just how cold Nicole could be.

She returned home in a daze and made a decision. They were leaving.

Camila stared at her in shock. “Mom, have you lost your mind? Where would we even go? It’s more dangerous outside!”

The outside world was dangerous, but at least they still had a chance.

If they stayed, Irene would have to patrol for 12 hours a day. Their food and medicine were running low, and sooner or later, they would run out and die.

“Your father hid a stockpile of supplies outside. As long as we can reach the military base, we’ll be alright.”

Camila froze. “I know Dad’s death hit you hard, but you can’t just walk into a military base. Dad used every connection he had and still couldn’t get us in. Stop kidding yourself.”

Even the Robinsons hadn’t been able to gain entry. What chance did they have?

“As long as you do exactly what I say, we might have a chance.”

Irene had made up her mind. She gripped her daughter’s hand and said firmly, “But you need to remember a few things. One mistake could ruin everything.”

The possibility of getting into the military base immediately tempted Camila.

“What do I need to do?” she asked.

“You’re already 23,” Irene said, “and you have a crystal pendant…”

Camila stared at her in disbelief. After a long silence, she pulled her hand away.

“Mom,” she began, “is Nicole your daughter?”

“Camila, everything I’m doing is for you.”

“So she is your daughter!” Camila exploded. “She’s the bastard child you had with another man!”

There was no point hiding it anymore.

Irene had visited Nicole several times, and Camila had secretly followed her.

No wonder they looked so much alike! No wonder Irene always warned Camila not to pick a fight with Nicole and to stay away from her.

Irene looked at her spoiled daughter, pain filling her eyes. “Do you want to get into the military base or not?”

Resentment was one thing, but survival came first. Marcus only had eyes for Nicole and barely acknowledged Camila.

Camila quickly calmed down. If pretending to be Nicole could get her into the military base, she was willing to do it.

But what about her two younger brothers? Should they take them along?

Irene’s expression hardened. “They’re not my biological children. They’d only slow us down, and bringing them might keep both of us from being allowed to stay at the military base.”

Now that her husband was dead, she had no reason to keep raising his illegitimate sons. She had endured enough humiliation because of them over the years.

“We have to leave in secret,” Camila said. “We can’t let them find out.”

Irene took a deep breath and wrapped her arms around her daughter. “You’re my only daughter. Once we reach the military base, whether we can stay and build a secure life will depend entirely on you.”

Camila clenched her teeth. “Don’t worry. I’ll make sure you’re taken care of.”

Nicole knew nothing about what was happening in the Clark household. She either stayed home or kept track of the outside world through the radio and various communication channels.

The polar night was anything but peaceful. Sirens and gunshots frequently shattered the darkness, sometimes nearby and sometimes far away. Every so often, flames lit up the horizon.

As long as the darkness continued, the violence would never stop.

The police and military had better equipment, but the rioters were becoming smarter, too.

The large-scale uprisings had ended, but the survivors quickly adapted to the brutal crackdowns and switched to calculated hit-and-run attacks.
