The Apocalypse Survival Manual (Three Days Before Doomsday, I Stockpiled Billions) novel Chapter 579

Chapter 579

What Nicole didn’t know was that Jasper had insisted on leaving almost as soon as he woke up. Once he confirmed that none of the other officers were in mortal danger, he ignored Eric’s attempts to make him stay and contacted the station to send someone for them.

There was still far too much work waiting for him. The rioters weren’t going to stop committing crimes just because he stayed there to recover.

Marcus told him exactly how they had been rescued, leaving nothing out.

When Jasper learned that Zeph and Nicole had saved them from more than a hundred rioters, he didn’t seem particularly surprised. Before leaving, he even praised the Robinsons.

“You’ve done a good job organizing the neighborhood patrol. If other neighborhoods showed the same initiative the rioters wouldn’t be nearly as brazen. Keep it up, and don’t let your guard down.”

After Jasper left, Marcus collapsed onto the couch. “Dad, what exactly is Chief Anderson’s relationship with Villa 50?”

When the rioters attacked the neighborhood, Jasper had gone straight to Villa 50. He was clearly worried about them. When he found out they had saved his life, he barely reacted, as though he had expected nothing less from them.

“Do you think Villa 50 could be working undercover for Chief Anderson so he can secretly keep the wealthy district under control?”

“There’s definitely something wrong with your brain.” Eric looked at Marcus as though he were an idiot. “What kind of undercover agents deliberately turn an entire neighborhood against themselves?”

“You keep insisting you’re not old. Ever heard of reverse psychology? That’s how young people do things now.”

Father and son looked down on each other equally.

Marcus kept running his mouth. “If Villa 50 acted like all the other rich people, do you think I’d respect them?”

Whatever the truth was, there was definitely something unusual about Zeph and Nicole. The way they carried themselves was different.

Marcus couldn’t quite explain it. He just knew there was something strange about them.

Eric had grown so used to hitting Marcus that he swung his cane without thinking.

“You brat, you think you’re too grown for me now? When I was building this family from nothing, you weren’t even born yet! If you think you’re so capable, get out of my house!”
