Nicole obviously wasn’t about to tell Eric the whole truth. “I don’t know exactly where they’re holding Marcus, but I wouldn’t have taken the job if I didn’t think we had a real chance.”

Eric nodded. “The ransom is due tomorrow.”

The kidnappers had given him a location, but Nicole knew it wouldn’t be as simple as showing up and making the exchange. They would almost certainly have more steps planned.

Before leaving, Nicole reminded Eric, “Getting Marcus back is important, but don’t forget to find whoever’s leaking information from inside your family.”

He still had two other sons. If the traitor wasn’t dealt with, there was nothing stopping the kidnappers from going after them next.

Eric’s blood pressure spiked again. Once that useless brat was safely back, he was seriously tempted to disown him!

After leaving the Robinson residence, Nicole brought Jeremy’s group back to her place and told them about the helicopter and fuel she had negotiated for.

The four of them stared at her in disbelief.

What did she need a helicopter for? Sure, it was impressive, but keeping one running would cost a fortune.

Nicole told them the truth.

“Food and meat are relatively easy to come by. What worries me is what happens next. We have no idea what kind of disasters are still ahead. If there’s another massive earthquake someday and nowhere on the ground is safe, a helicopter might give us a way out.”

People with different backgrounds tended to think about survival differently.

Diana had no objection. “A helicopter could be useful. It would give us a lot more options.”

If they pulled this off, they would already have enough supplies to live comfortably for a long time.

The helicopter was just an unexpected bonus, so Jeremy and Hughie didn’t object either.
