The Apocalypse Survival Manual (Three Days Before Doomsday, I Stockpiled Billions) novel Chapter 642

Chapter 642

After ending the call, Nicole contacted Hughie next.

Her nerves tightened as she waited. She could only hope they were all still alive.

When Hughie heard Nicole’s voice, he went quiet for a long time.

Nicole froze. He sounded like he was trying not to cry.

“Nicole, where did you go?”

After so many years of natural disasters, Hughie had almost forgotten what it felt like to cry. But this time, he couldn’t hold it back.

“We thought…you and Zeph were dead.”

Nicole fell silent for a moment.

“We all got sick, so we went to Grayport. We didn’t know if we’d be able to find medicine, and I didn’t want you worrying, so I didn’t tell you.”

She only got into the research institute because she knew medicine and because Mitchell pulled some strings for

her.

Mitchell only let Zeph and the two little ones in because he still remembered how they had saved his life years ago.

Outside, the place was packed with people desperate for treatment. Hundreds, even thousands, couldn’t get in. Even when the research institute took in patients, it had to choose who to admit.

Nicole herself only got through the door because of her connections. There was no way she could have brought everyone else with her.

After thinking it over, she decided not to tell them the truth. She only said she had to leave for a few days.

Fortunately, the three of them were in better shape than most people, and they drank medicinal herb infusions every day. Their symptoms stayed much milder than most.

Nicole finally let out a breath. After surviving something like this, knowing the people she cared about were still alive brought a kind of relief she couldn’t put into words.

She didn’t contact Marcus. With the Robinsons’ resources, they were probably already using every connection they had to get medicine.

There were dozens of people in the Robinson family alone. Deciding who got medicine and who didn’t would be a problem in itself, so Nicole gave up on the idea.

She brought the medicine back to save lives, but deciding who should get it was another matter entirely. Nicole handed that headache over to Zeph.

What else could Zeph do? Jeremy, Hughie, and the others were obviously getting some.

As for everyone else… Sven and Brandon could try it first, if they were willing. They would see how the two of them reacted before deciding what to do next.

There was no way to keep something like this secret forever. If they handed out all the medicine at once, the people who got nothing were bound to cause trouble once they found out.

For now, they had to keep it quiet.

The medicine wasn’t completely risk-free, either. Everyone reacted differently, and there was always a chance it might not work for someone or even make things worse.

Nicole agreed, so she left the choice to Sven.

“We got this medicine from the research institute, but we don’t know if it’H work for everyone. If you want to try it, I can give it to you. But if something goes wrong, Zeph and I can’t be responsible. Think it over carefully.”

Even vaccines could cause severe allergic reactions in rare cases. The last thing they needed was to try to save someone only to get blamed if that person died.

Sven trusted them. After thinking for a moment, he said, “I’ll take it first.”

If he made it through the treatment, there would still be time to give it to his son.

Nicole tossed the bottle over the tall courtyard wall.

Sven handed Brandon every key to the villa, including the keys to their hidden supplies and the food in the basement.

“Brandon, you’re 13 now. You’re almost grown. If I’m gone one day, you have to keep going. Live better than I did, and hold on until the very end.”

Then he took the medicine.
