Chapter 93

Edward was motioning for everyone to charge, but he didn’t move an inch himself.

That made things awkward.

Just moments ago, they were ready to break the door down. Now it was open, and no one dared step forward.

Oliver felt his face burn with embarrassment, and he cursed them under his breath for being spineless. Pushed into a corner, he forced himself to speak.

“Even if that’s a real gun, you only have seven bullets. Do you think that’s enough to stop all of us?”

That snapped people out of it.

“Yeah! Seven bullets, that’s it. What are we scared of?”

“Exactly! It’s just a gun!”

Nicole looked at them and let out a cold laugh.

“You’re right. It’s only seven lives.”

Her gaze swept across the crowd.

“So who’s willing to step up? Who wants to die first so Oliver here can get what he wants? I promise I’ll grant your wish. And while he eats and drinks later, your families will starve.”

“Nicole, what are you trying to say?” Oliver snapped.

“You heard me,” she said. “Just pick seven people who are ready to die.”

She stepped forward, out into the stairwell, and pressed the cold barrel of the gun against Oliver’s forehead.

“You’re the building rep. If anyone should go first, it’s you.”

The gun wasn’t plastic. Oliver felt the cold metal immediately. His heart seemed to stop. His face drained of color as sweat broke out across his skin.

“D-Don’t do anything stupid.”

“You’re the one causing trouble,” Nicole said, her voice sharp. “Coming up here again and again, trying to pressure us. Do you really think we’re easy targets?”

Her eyes were cold.

“I don’t start things, but I don’t run from them either. You’ve pushed me again and again. Now, I’m just returning the favor.”

Her finger tightened on the trigger.

For a second, everything froze. All eyes locked on her and Oliver. Nicole’s eyes hardened with lethal intent as she slowly squeezed the trigger.

“Ahhh!”

Right then, a sudden, piercing scream ripped through the stairwell.

“Someone’s been killed!”

The crowd panicked instantly, people shoving and pushing, trying to force their way into the hallway.

Nicole slammed the gun’s handle into Oliver’s head and kicked him to the ground.

At the same time, Cola shot forward like a bolt of lightning, tackling Edward as he tried to slip away in the chaos.

The dog clamped down hard.

“Aaaah!”

Screams rang out as people shoved past each other, scrambling to run and dodge in the packed hallway.

Someone stumbled in from the stairwell, hands clamped over his throat as blood poured through his fingers. He made it a few steps before collapsing, body twitching on the floor, eyes wide, gasping for air.

“Cola!” Nicole called out.

Cola only let go after drawing blood, then turned and sprinted back upstairs. The second he crossed the threshold Nicole slammed the door shut and locked it.

The crowd surged forward, crashing into the reinforced door.

Some were shoved straight into the metal spikes. Their screams cut through the chaos.

Everything had happened too fast.
