Chapter 283 I Won’t Allow It

Half an hour earlier.

After Wolffang ran into Ryan, Dominic and Tristan quickly worked out the pattern of the long-distance run and identified the closest direction and route for them.

Just as they were about to move, someone rushed in from behind.

Neither side hesitated. They clashed immediately.

Frost gave a cold laugh. Two blades flashed into his hands as he charged straight in, slicing through the crowd.

Sierra’s weapons were almost identical to Frost’s. Both fought with dual-wielding, except Sierra used twin daggers.

The moment Tristan and the others saw them, they recognized them as members of the thief syndicate. They’d clashed plenty of times over the past two years. Those were old enemies.

Neither side held back. Every move was meant to kill.

Suddenly, Frost’s figure blurred. He slashed straight toward Shirley!

He was moving way too fast. Tristan and Harvey realized it at the same time-he had activated his ability!

But by the time they reacted, it was already too late to help.

Rip!

The sound of a blade tearing through flesh rang out.

After landing the strike, Frost didn’t linger. He exchanged a look with Sierra, and they bolted.

They knew how strong Wolffang was. They also knew that if the fight dragged on, especially if Wolffang’s boss showed up, they might not escape at all.

One solid hit was enough. Someone would be taken out.

The two attackers vanished as fast as they appeared. There was no way to chase them down.

“Dominic!” Shirley gasped.

She’d thought she was the one who’d been hit. She never expected Dominic to take the hit for her.

In seconds, Dominic’s face turned deathly pale.

He had been standing right next to Shirley. Knowing she couldn’t dodge in time, he moved without hesitation and took the blow for her.

Ryan frowned deeply. “That blade was poisoned. It’s Emberbloom.”

Shirley’s expression hardened, nothing like her usual cheerful self.

Wolffang never wasted time in moments like that.

Tristan said bluntly, “Dominic, in your condition, you can’t finish the assessment.

“You’ll pass out in ten minutes. I’m activating the withdrawal button on your wrist now. Once it’s pressed, the academy staff will arrive immediately.”

That wasn’t just Tristan’s decision. Everyone agreed.

He was informing Dominic and asking for his consent.

Holding onto his last bit of awareness, Dominic nodded. His voice was hoarse but firm. “No problem.”

Even weakened, his words carried weight.

Ashton and Harvey felt a deep sense of regret, but there was no other choice.

Tristan nodded and was about to press the button when Shirley suddenly grabbed his wrist.

“Don’t!” She bit her lip, glaring at him in frustration.

“Shirley, let go.” It was the first time Tristan had ever spoken to her in such a strict, commanding tone.

But she refused to release him. “You’re not Thora. Why should I listen to you? Who says Dominic has to withdraw right now? I won’t allow it!”

Once Shirley dug her heels in, no one could stop her except Thora. Everyone in Wolffang knew that.

“Shirley…” Dominic looked at her.

“Dominic…” she whispered, lips pursed, guilt written all over her face.

He struggled into a faint smile. “You’ve grown up… You never used to care about us.”

Harvey and Ashton glanced at her as well.

Dominic was right. The old Shirley had never been like that.

She lowered her head and said nothing. But a fierce, violent aura-one they all knew too well-started to pour out of her.

If this place hadn’t suppressed wolf power, her wolf spirit would’ve already gone berserk.

Dominic looked at them all, gathering the last of his focus. “I can’t go with you guys this time.”

He smiled faintly. “But don’t forget-Boss is still waiting for you. And I’ll still be fighting with you … just from somewhere else.”

Even as the poison spread and his vision blurred, his eyes stayed firm.

“All of Wolffang is fighting with you!”

Maybe Dominic wasn’t the strongest in Wolffang, but he knew he was never useless.
