A guard with a heavy pulse rifle stopped the man in front of him. The pur’s surface had gale obver west designs that glowed faintly-a special weapon for controlling high-level werewolves,

Oliver was dressed in a sharp black suit. He pulled a gold-emboued ID from his pocket and handed over

The guard pressed the ID against a scanner with a wolf-power sensor. A pale blue wolf patern Banket on the screen, confirming the ID. The guard handed the ID back respectfully.

He stood straight and saluted,

Oliver slipped the ID away. The thick metal door in front of him slowly opened. A faint silver scent spread out, meant to suppress the prisoners’ wolf powers.

Shirley, who was facing a military court trial and labeled a dangerous werewolf with an unable wolf spiri was locked in a top-level isolation cell.

She still wore her Astralis College uniform-white shirt, fitted blazer, pleated skin, and twin ponytails. She looked like nothing more than a harmless little girl.

Of course, that’s if you ignored the wild, unstable wolf power rippling around her.

When Oliver entered the monitoring area outside her cell, he saw Shirley hanging upside down from a chair, her head slumped like a broken doll.

Blood had stained parts of her uniform, making the whole scene even creepier

Hearing someone arrive, Shirley sat up straight and turned toward him.

Her doll-like face lit up with a bright smile. “Oliver!”

Oliver rubbed his forehead. The usual playful air he carried when hanging out with spoiled rich kids was completely gone. His handsome face is now full of helplessness.

He stared at her through the isolation cell and frowned. “Your dad asked me to come. He’s worried that if he visits himself, you’ll make him angry again.

Shirley’s sweet, obedient smile faded. She pouted and muttered, “Oh, I thought you came to see me.”

Oliver looked at her. He had watched this girl grow up.

At first, her obedient face and soft way of calling “Oliver’ made him want to go easy on her.

He didn’t have a sister, so he couldn’t help wanting to protect her.

When Shirley was ten, Oliver saw her pinning down a kid who had shoved her on purpose—she beat him

badly. Her eyes were cold, not like a child’s at all. That’s when he knew she had a ruthless streak hidden inside her.

Later, he quietly asked her father about it and learned that when Shirley was six, she had been kidnapped by the rogues. After she was rescued, doctors noticed she had mild antisocial traits caused by the trauma.

Things got worse after her wolf spirit awakened. Her wolf spirit was unusual-wild, hard to control, and sometimes dangerous. Even the pack’s elders had to work hard to restrain her.

Because of that, her family hardly ever lets her go out. The Astralis Empire even banned her from carrying guns, worried she might lose control and cause trouble.

Strangely, she always behaved especially well around Oliver.

Even when her wolf power flared up, she let him calm it down with his own wolf power without complaining.

That’s why her father, Mr. Reed, always left matters concerning her in Oliver’s hands.

“Who told you to carry a gun in public?” Oliver asked in a low voice. “Your dad’s political rivals are watching. Even if you protected Astralis College and did the right thing, rules are rules. You still have to face military

court.”

Shirley pressed her lips together, her big eyes filling with tears as she stared at him. “Oliver, I don’t want to go to military court. Those people are scary. I haven’t even showered for days. Can you take me out?”

Oliver almost gave in, but then he noticed a sneaky spark in her eyes and forced himself to stay firm.

“Stop it. I didn’t meet you yesterday,” he said firmly.
